Looks like this will be too polarizing to stand a chance of winning BP, especially since they already gave it to Birdman

It's clearly not for everyone, but there are a few 10/10s, those people really love it. Some tech wins + Leo?

I think Shutter Island and Gatsby were also originally Holiday releases but the got pushed to next year.

Shutter Island was originally supposed to be released October 2009. The official explanation for the move was that Paramount didn't have the 50-60 million for extra marketing for an awards push and that Leo wouldn't be able to do press tours for the film around that time.

It costs $50M to market an awards push?

Screeners, advertisements in the trades, paying for press tours/junkets, etc. It adds up. Add that's cumulative of the initial marketing as well.

If the 50M~ number is including the original marketing then fair enough.

No, just awards marketing. Also, setting up special guild screenings, travel costs for talent, putting on banquets, etc... it all adds up.

Oscar Campaigns might be as expensive or more expensive than political ones, wow.

Not particularly good reviews for something that was supposed to be one of the frontunners. In fact, it's looking to be the worst reviewed of the 10-12 movies in contention for BP.

Well, it has gotten quite some 4-5's out of 5 and 9-10's out of 10.
