So today in Brazil is the opening day of Fifty Shades Darker, it'll benefit from 1,395 screens. It's an impressive number and 30% more than Fifty Shades of Grey in 2015 that benefit from 1,087 screens!

In 2015 Fifty Shades of Grey had the fourth biggest opening weekend with R$24m and 1.6 million admissions.

Lego Batman is also available on 777 screens, that's better that Lego the Movie (575 screens) and had an opening week of 319,000 admissions in 3 days (Lego Batman will benefit from a 4-day OW).

I expect it to do better than the first movie but probably less than Fifty Shades 2.

Top for Wednesday 8, the day before the release of Fifty Shades 2 and Lego Batman. RINGS is still first so it seems to be holding well, same thing for RE6.

The local movie, Moana and La La Land still incredibly resistant :)

FIFTY SHADES DARKER grossed R$7.2m ($2.3m) Opening Day and 480,000 admissions.

That's very strong but it's less than Fifty Shades of Grey (-9.4% in admissions) that got 533,000 admissions in 2015, despite the fact Fifty Shades Darker benefited from much more screens (+30%).

Interesting stat that is not about Brazil but that I wanted to share : the European Union reached a record with 994 million tickets sold in 2016, +1.6% over 2015.

If you add European countries that aren't EU members this number reaches 1.27B tickets sold.

With Cars 3 coming this year it's time for a recap :

Cars : $8.2m

Cars 2 : $16.6m

Local currency :

Cars : R$19.1m

Cars 2 : R$33.7m

Will Cars 3 beat Cars 2? The market is much bigger than in 2011 but the exchange rate is much less advantageous. In lc I'm confident it'll beat it, in USD it remains to be seen.

Movies gross in Latin America as a single market (UPDATED )

I thought it would be interesting to know how big Latin America would be if it was a single market. So I added every Latin American countries' gross.
Brazil being the second biggest LA market behind Mexico and the most populated I think it's fitting, and I will show what is the share of Brazil in all this :D

Latin American population : 610 million (2015)
Brazilian population : 205 million (2015)
Brazil's share : 33.5%

Rogue One
Latin America : $41m
Brazil : $14.6m
Brazil's share : 36%

Let's be frank, RO bombed in Latin America :depp:
