LOL So Think Like A Man is number one for two consecutive weekends and there isn't even a discussion thread for it. I thought Neo would have done that by now. Movie is making 60 million on a 12 million dollar budget. Has anyone here seen it?

I think there are two threads about it, I've seen it, pretty funny and entertaining- Hollywood and movie boards usually are sexist and raciest when it comes to movies so- not surprised

See, I agree with this to a point, but as you know fish, there really aren't many true stars anymore. How many people really open a film on name alone? Sandler, Smith (although he hasn't made a film for about 75 years now it seems) Denzel, Streep and who? Who can open a film on name alone? Stallone, The Rock, Clooney, Willis, Tatum? Maybe but not sure. So Hollywood has to continue taking risks with projects like this. Short of putting an ensemble together every single film, stuff like this is bound to happen from time to time.

Really it's only Sandler, Smith, and Denzel (though it's kinda weird dropping his name when he hasn't done anything since '08...what the f have you been doing, Will?). Streep has had her share of flops and non-starters (Iron Lady being most recent). The Rock is no draw. Stallone and Willis are way past their prime (Expendables doesn't count). And the only success you could maybe attribute to Tatum's name alone is The Vow. Clooney's films generally do well but that's because they have great legs after a small opening. You have Sandler, Smith, Denzel, and then there's a slew of big names that are a draw but only in certain types of roles (Leo, Depp, Jolie, Downey Jr).But yes, overall stars mean nothing now. People are drawn by story, spectacle, and brands. Edited by tonytr87

Hey thanks. I guess I just didn't look back far enough. Search function seems to stall for me.On another note, I thought The Raven looked like a good movie. But reviews (critics and audience) say otherwise. I'll still catch it on blu ray or dvd. Edited by ECSTASY

I like Segel and in love with Blunt but I didn't find the trailer of Five Year Engagement 'engaging' so not a surprise for me that this didn't break out.I hope Think Like A Man will do 18 million (or higher) so the #1 movie will have a decent gross

The most I see THG dropping next week is 40%, assuming its TC is still in the 3000 neighborhood. Look at 2007. Disturbia dropped 35% against SM3 and it added 85 theaters that weekend. Blades of Glory lost 943 theaters and dropped 53%. Vacancy lost 853 and dropped 62%. Theater losses kill movies late in their run more than anything else.

Disturbia is a good comparison. Disturbia was no 1 the weekend before SM3, THG will be a close no 3. There is plenty of films in the top 12 with lower PTA, they will be losing theaters first.

Just because a movie has a low budget doesn't make a sub 10m OW acceptable. Especially not with the big marketing push.

Yeah, but there seems to be a piling on and, usually, the word "flop" is used for movies with sizable budgets, not generic and disposable romcoms (which opened at a disappointing but not terrible #2 or 3, incidentally).
