I liked PR (for what it is) but I think it'll be difficult for it to make a dent in the Japanese BO, saying as someone who's part Japanese. The young adult-ish drama of the movie isn't that relatable while the little action given isn't markedly more exciting than the usual tokusatsu fare. Happy to be wrong though.

Your probably right. After seeing how it done in all other OS markets China included. I probably should expect very little in Japan as well.

The post-Golden Week weekend regularly experiences harsh drops, and this weekend will big no exception; although, we might see the drops come in slightly better than recent years since the past weekdays firmly occurred post-holiday frame.

>Beauty and the Beast will easily take the top spot once again, claiming its fourth-consecutive week atop the box office (and it won't be the last). It will, however, experience the post-Golden Week decline, but its Saturday pre-sales and morning ticket sales suggest it'll have a respectable drop over the post-holiday frame.

>Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will likely edge out both The Fate of the Furious and Detective Conan: Crimson Love Letter to claim second place in its debut weekend. Based on its Friday performance, and Saturday pre-sales/morning ticket sales, it's looking at an opening weekend around ¥300 million - that'd be a nice 30-35% increase over the original film from 2014.

>And as I briefly mentioned above, the latest films in the Furious and Detective Conan franchises will likely be bumped down one position, but it's really a coin-toss on which film will come in third place over the weekend.

Beauty and the Beast will now be the highest grossing film of the year, passing Fantastic Beasts' 7.3 billion yen.

Do you know if FB1 was well received in Japan? Wonder if FB2 or 3 has a shot at 100m USD.

Fantastic Beasts did well because the Harry Potter universe is incredibly popular in Japan, but I think the absence of stars like the main Hogwarts trio will keep it from reaching the heights of the past Harry Potter films. I think the sequels should be aiming for a similar total or slightly higher than the first, around $70 million.

Can anyone tell me if 'Beauty and the Beast' still has a chance of grossing north of 100 million dollars in Japan?! And is it still up for a total of 500 million in North America?!

$500 million domestic is 100% happening. At least $100 million in Japan is looking very good with recent drops.

Thank you :)

Then BatB has really good chance of a final total of $1.250 billion! You mean it could make even more than $100 million in Japan?! I'm so happy cause i loved this movie so much and the cast choice, notably Emma Watson, was perfect and i think much of the success of this movie is thanks to her.

Much love from Portugal. God bless you all!

Deadline :Japan is a standout with a fourth consecutive No. 1 weekend ($5.6M) for a $71.5M cume.

Weekend drop is less than 30%! great! 100M USD is absolutely locked now.

I think Dumbledore being back and tying Hogwarts and Europe sort of to the story will have a pretty big impact. I am not hoping for 100m, but maybe 80-90m.

The first few Harry Potter films were in a league of their own. But FB still managed to outgross DH1 in yen. That's pretty impressive for a spin-off/prequel. And I agree if they bring Dumbledore and Hogwarts into the story, the sequels has a potential to do much more.
