looks like your name never going to beat titanic's figure, titanic is safe but not sure bet yet for frozen.....

Maintaining the same weekly drops it has had for the past month gets it to around 25 billion yen by September. Unless it gets a big boost from holidays (not likely to be significant since it will probably be out of Top 10 by then), I don't think it will surpass Frozen.

>La La Land debuted at #1, selling an impressive 289,979 admissions over the weekend frame across 308 screens. And since opening on Friday, its 3-day admissions reached 402,709.

The Almost-Best Picture-Winner at Sunday's Academy Awards delivered the third-biggest opening ever for a live-action musical (behind Mamma Mia! and Into the Woods). It's more impressive, in my opinion though, since it's an original musical with very little known names (in Japan). I'm sure it'll have a nice run (likely earning $25-30 million), but I really wish it had won Best Picture because its potential in Japan would have likely become near blockbuster levels ($40-50 million).

>Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale saw a sizable second weekend decline, but it's having some surprisingly good weekdays which is helping to stunt the frontloaded factor a bit. It depends on how its screens/showtimes are handled once the Spring films release next month, but it still has a good shot at reaching ¥2 billion (~$20 million).

>xXx: The Return of Xander Cage got off to a soft start, selling 114,515 admissions over the weekend on 401 screens. The second film, xXx: State of the Union didn't receive a theatrical release in Japan back in 2005, but compared to the original xXx, the third film declined a significant 57%.

>Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children exceeded the ¥1 billion milestone over the weekend, achieving commercial success status, and giving Tim Burton another successful film in the market. It's only ~$2 million shy of reaching the $300 million milestone at the worldwide box office, and Japan should be able to get it there - just barely.

>Your Name. achieves its 27th-consecutive week in the Top 10, breaking Spirited Away's record of 26-consecutive weeks in the Top 10. This was one of those records that most never saw falling, yet it's been broken. And after 27 weeks in release now, it has sold a mammoth 18,842,069 admissions.

Its weekly grosses are becoming lower and lower though, and it'll need to win big at this upcoming weekend's 40th Japan Academy Prize Ceremony (it needs to win Best Director, Best Animation, and Best Screenplay) or its time in the Top 10 could come to an end in a couple weeks.

Come on Sword Art, you can hit ¥2bn!

I'm certain it will. If you compare it to the other blockbuster late night anime ( Madoka Magica, Love Live or even Girls und Panza) it is currently ahead of them after the same number of dans and they all ended up coing over the mark.

so Moana and Sing open on back to back weekends.  Anyone have a feeling on which movie is tracking higher?

According to Corpse, Moana is currently tracking for an opening somewhere between Dory and Big Hero 6. Depending on legs, the range seemed to be $45-60 million. Sing will be lucky to hit $15 million, imo.

As of the Mid-Day Point (~2PM), here's how Moana is tracking versus Disney's recent animated releases (excluding The Good Dinosaur, which bombed):

Up 61.1% vs. Inside Out
Up 59.1% vs. Zootopia
Up 6.2% vs. Big Hero 6
Up 4.9% vs. Finding Dory
Down 18.8% vs. Frozen

Very, very impressive. It's only trailing Frozen, as you can see.

It's a great sign that Moana is up over Finding Dory, in particular, so far, but the comparison should be cautioned. Dory opened over a holiday weekend, so its Saturday ended up being "slow" and its weakest day because of that (it had mammoth Sun. and Mon. increases).

An opening weekend near ¥700 million ($6 million+) seems doable if it doesn't suddenly slow down in the evening (possible if it's skewing too young), and winds up with a strong Sunday. And an opening anywhere near, or over, ¥700 million should result in a minimum gross of ¥6 billion ($50-55 million), but it'll probably go higher unless WOM is simply just okay.
