JAPAN BOX OFFICE | Demon Slayer breaks all time record for OW

Recommended Posts

Wow @ Conan. That second weekend is bigger than what it used to have as OW weekend pre-2014. Really impressed and kinda happy. I remember enjoying the TV series years ago  (though I stopped watching it since as it's never ending, heh).

As fot BatB, numbers speak for thenselves really. This movie seems exactly like the kind of movie that the Japanese adore so I can't see it missing ¥10 billion and I'd go so far as saying as AiW is a good target (in ¥, since ER makes $ comparisons unfair).

Are Conan films usually very frontloaded? After such a huge opening to make only 6-7 billion yen seems unusual for a leggy market like Japan. Agree about BatB too. I think it definitely has a shot at being the highest grossing live action Disney film.

No Skull Island numbers?

It dropped about 58% from last weekend (currently rank #13), so probably around the $330-340K range. Its total is about $17 million now.

17.2 usd for Kong. Looks like it won't do much more than 18. A tad disappointing that it's below 20.

There are quite a few films that I expected to play well in Japan but ended up disappointing. You would think that being the birthplace of kaiju that films like Kong or Pacific Rim would be more popular.
