MANILA, August 2, 2017 – Disney-Pixar's “Cars 3,” the latest installment in the beloved Cars series, raced to a smash P40.8-million opening weekend nationwide, ranking as the No.1 foreign movie for the July 26 – July 30 frame.

This was announced today by The Walt Disney Company (Philippines).

Cars 3” is on track to surpass to the lifetime box-office gross of its two predecessors, 2011's “Cars 2” and 2006's “Cars” whose entire run at P40.5-million has already been exceeded in only five days.

SM North EDSA, Trinoma and Power Plant led the topgrossing cinemas, with P1.25-M, P1.17-M and P1.12-M receipts, respectively.

It has been more than ten years since the first “Cars” film was released, but Lightning McQueen remains an iconic character today. While Lightning is still the same self-assured, determined and fun-loving race car audiences fell in love with, his confidence is being tested by the new cars on the track.

Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary champion finds himself suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. Suddenly, he finds his dominance in the sport, as well as the confidence that got him there--threatened by younger, faster cars. Determined to get back into pole position, #95 must decide if his love for racing is enough to fuel the comeback of his life.

Cars 3” features Owen Wilson (“Shanghai Noon”) as the voice of Lightning McQueen. Cristela Alonzo (“The Angry Birds Movie”) voices tech-savvy trainer Cruz Ramirez, who tries to help Lightning return to greatness, and Armie Hammer (“The Social Network”) lends his voice to next-gen racer Jackson Storm, whose high-tech speed leaves Lightning McQueen behind.

Directed by Brian Fee, produced by Kevin Reher and co-produced by Andrea Warren, “Cars 3” is executive produced by John Lasseter, who directed the first two films in the franchise.

Disney/Pixar’s “Cars 3” is now cruising into Philippine cinemas. #Cars3 #JointheRacePH

Good thing there are people who love to follow box office earnings of each movie in the Philippines.

I've heard KitaKita grossed P230M already. It's a feel good movie.

How much did Spider Man Homecoming earn in the PH? I think Spider Man 3 was still the top grossing SM film in the country.

Been also a reader of box office press releases in the Philippines.

SM North EDSA was once the top selling cinema in the PH in every box office film. Not until MOA and Trinoma came into the scene.

Megamall is also a consistent top 5 cinema.

Maybe it's time to renovate the old SM North cinemas in the Main Building? Stadium-style cinemas suck!!

NEW LINE CINEMA'S “IT” A MONSTER HIT AT PH BOX-OFFICE
Acclaimed Chiller Scares up P50.18-M on its Opening Weekend

MANILA, September 11, 2017 – New Line Cinema’s IT, the critically lauded big-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s perennial best seller, floated to the top of the Philippine box office on its opening weekend, earning P50.18-million across 213 cinemas, and still climbing.

Directed by Andy Muschietti (Mama), the much-anticipated horror thriller has surpassed the opening figures of recent horror blockbusters, The Conjuring (P39-M) and Lights Out (P36.7-M).

In making the announcement, Francis Soliven, General Manager, Warner Bros. Philippines, said, “IT is the film that everyone is talking about, whether fans of the genre or not, driving moviegoers across the country to brave the cinema for their own encounter with Pennywise. We couldn’t be more thrilled with the results, and congratulate New Line Cinema, director Andy Muschietti and his phenomenal cast and crew on this fantastic opening.”

New Line Cinema’s horror thriller IT tells the story of seven young outcasts growing up in the township of Derry, Maine, who call themselves the Losers’ Club. Each of them has been ostracized for one reason or another; each has a target on their back from the local pack of bullies…and all have seen their inner fears come to life in the form of an ancient shapeshifting predator they can only call It.

For as long as their town has existed, Derry has been the entity’s hunting ground, emerging from the sewers every 27 years to feed on the terrors of its chosen prey: Derry’s children. Banding together over one horrifying and exhilarating summer, the Losers form a close bond to help them overcome their own fears and stop a killing cycle that began on a rainy day, with a small boy chasing a paper boat as it swept down a storm drain…and into the hands of Pennywise the Clown.

Directed by Andy Muschietti, IT is based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, which has been terrifying readers for decades. First published in 1986, IT became an instant classic. It continues to be counted among the best and most influential works of the undisputed literary master of horror, inspiring numerous film and television projects in the years that have followed.

The film stars Bill Skarsgård (Allegiant) as the story’s central villain, Pennywise. An ensemble of young actors also star in the film, including Jaeden Lieberher (Midnight Special), Jeremy Ray Taylor (Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip), Sophia Lillis (37), Finn Wolfhard (Netflix’s Stranger Things), Wyatt Oleff (Guardians of the Galaxy), Chosen Jacobs (upcoming Cops and Robbers), Jack Dylan Grazer (Tales of Halloween), Nicholas Hamilton (Captain Fantastic) and Jackson Robert Scott, making his film debut.

Muschietti directed IT from a screenplay by Chase Palmer & Cary Fukunaga and Gary Dauberman, based on the novel by King. Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Seth Grahame-Smith, David Katzenberg and Barbara Muschietti produced the film, with Dave Neustadter, Walter Hamada, Richard Brener, Toby Emmerich, Marty P. Ewing, Doug Davison, Jon Silk and Niija Kuykendall serving as executive producers.

New Line Cinema presents a Vertigo Entertainment/Lin Pictures/Katzsmith Production, IT. The film is being distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

MANILA, Jan. 16, 2018 – They saved the biggest for last! Universal Pictures' Pitch Perfect 3 sang its way straight to the Philippine box-office to the tune of P101-M – the industry's highest opening weekend ever for a musical-comedy.

That figure also represents the sixth biggest opening weekend ever for a Universal Pictures title, ahead of 2015's Fast and Furious 7 (at P97.9-M); and the all-time biggest January opening for Universal, surpassing last year's P65-M debut of The Great Wall.

"With this series, we feel like we tapped into something-this flood of female empowerment, not just in Hollywood and in our industry, and in movies, but in the world," says producer Elizabeth Banks who also directed the second installment. “If that power comes with entertainment for the audience, so much more the better. Plus, singing and dancing and making people laugh is never a bad combination."
