4815162342
Wow. What exactly happened? Hollywood found that movie offensive?Basically the original cut wasn't quite right for New Line, so they had Kaye re-cut the film and Kaye had a bitchfit and turned in a severely shortened cut that was nothing like the original version of the film. Kaye refused to edit the film anymore so the studio brought in an editor to work with Edward Norton in re-cutting the film again for the third (theatrical) version. Kaye again had a bitchfit, disowned the third cut and tried to remove his name from the credits, when that failed he tried to replace his name with a pseudonym, which also failed. teardropmina
Welles certainly not. Citizen Kane is his most celebrated work no doubt, but he's been considered as among the most important auteurs not because of just one film. All Welles works now are on the "critically acclaimed" list: Ambersons, The Lady from Shanghai, The Trial, Othello, Chimes at Midnight, Touch of Evil, and even down to Mr. Arkadin and F for Fakes. Welles is a purely personal cinema stylist and not an one hit wonder; it's just that Citizen Kane has been singled out of his body of works due to a variety of reasons. 4815162342
This thread has quickly become "directors who had only one film I liked/ever heard of."Yep.Personal opinions of how good a film is are irrelevant for this thread. A one-hit wonder has to do with the public at large's reception to the director's work and the course of the director's career. For example, Simon West directed Con Air, The General's Daughter, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and The Expendables 2. How is that a "one-hit" wonder?
BenedictL11
Rob Marshall - Chicago. After that, Memoirs of a Geisha was only a moderate hit but his next film would flop worse than ever, which would be another musical, Nine. Both did connect well with critics. baumer
Francis Ford Coppola : Apocalypse NowI liked his Dracula though.I don't like fake mafia movies. But this isn't about your opinion. Coppola has undoubtedly made many big hits and many acclaimed films. So he is not part of this discussion.
