Tron was more obscure than Beetlejuice and the sequel did pretty decent business after an even longer gap. WB would just have to market it right (and it would help if it was actually a good movie),

Remember when Tim Burton hated sequels, and sent in a terrible treatment for a Beetlejuice sequel (Beetlejuice goes Hawaii) just so it didn't get made.

Burton doesn't like sequels but he's always been open to the idea of a Beetlejuice one. Burton has always been attached they just never got made because the pitches were terrible.

WB were desperate and Burton wasn't interested so they told him he could make whatever movie he wanted to, I think the only catch was that Penguin had to be a villain.
