The more I think about it the more think certain elements of the season framework don't really hold up to scrutiny, and other elements are depicted very shallowly. A couple things also basically dropped out of sight for a see you next season maybe we'll do more then with this maybe not

that random double feature re-issue that was clearly meant to push MIB2 past $200M (and didn't succeed). That was still in 2002 though.

I remember the Black Eyed Peas did something similar maybe 15 years ago. Nobody actually cares that a movie trailer played on some guys phone in space. It's a ploy to get coverage for the debut of the trailer on some traditional news sources in order to alert people that the trailer has been released.

lol I have to wait a whole-ass hour for the trailer to launch while this stupid drone goes up in space? Was this marketing stunt really worth it?

Worth noting that any weekend gross above $12M for Abigail would give it the best opening for a horror movie since Five Nights at Freddy's, and the best opening for an original horror film since M3GAN 15 whole months ago. So these numbers are sounding pretty solid to me.

Some movie bloggers are funny. Like from which angle does Opp/Dune deserve Conan level shows.. Bloggers can't be real if they are calling for equal showtimes between Opp &Conan when one open on ¥381M while other is ¥3.35B Opener Why do they come out during Conan Release (because it releases on all formats?)

I'll adjust comps on the weekend, as more will come online. But it will still be hard yo compare this to existing franchises.

Some of this has to do with "screens" vs "shows". I took a look at my source yesterday (when I started writing this reply before I got busy). As of that point, Civil War was losing about 66% of it's IMAX shows (last week included previews as well though). I don't track how many individual screens are carrying a movie, but I can see where some theaters are splitting their IMAX screen between the two films (so they both can claim the screen), but give Spy x Family more shows over the weekend on the screen. I don't know if the 20% more IMAX shows is accurate though, because from what I saw yesterday, Spy x Family was ahead 1,707 to 1,646. As far as Dune 2, I'm only seeing 132 IMAX shows on the weekend from the theaters I track. For this, I know that BOP does have access to most of the showtimes once they are posted, so I wouldn't question it. IMAX is not a very large part of the showtimes picture, with most theaters only having one screen (and they're mostly splitting between movies this weekend). Spy x Family is looking like around 2k theaters
