  1. A nearly $50M 3-day, and nearly $60M 4-day, seems pretty excellent for A Quiet Place Part II, given all of the circumstances. I have to imagine that awareness & advertising was lower than under ideal, non-Covid, circumstances; some people are still hesitant and avoiding theatres; etc. Moreover, I live in the most populous province in Canada, and all of our movie theatres are still closed due to Covid restrictions - which already reduces box office potential domestically. I hope this is a sign of better times to come for the box office - I have definitely missed havi

  2. Not really. They haven't released anything concrete about any of their D+ shows. Just vague platitudes and some relative comparisons. Like, take this comment about The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: I cut off stuff from third party trackers, as it's fairly irrelevant. Disney itself hasn't released a damn thing except total subscribers. I personally don't like it one bit, but it doesn't say much about the success, or lack thereof, of Cruella.

  4. Just been to see AQP2 in the U.K. - opened today. Wow it’s just great. Word of mouth will be through the roof. btw - those questioning its internal multiplier over the weekend, and comparing it to POTC5 etc…why are you doing that? This is a new world now where they’re only just lifting mask restrictions for the fully vaccinated, and there’s social distancing galore. Even the demograph polling shows it’s younger audiences coming out for the movie. Those that are older and likely/understandably more tentative will eventually be reassured to come back. This is just one big fir

  5. 1) lets see the actuals first, 2) the first one had 11,5x from preview , so a quiet place 2 has around 9,5-10x from previews , imo thats very normal bc its a sequel and sequels are more frontloaded anyways and at the same time its not under normal conditions

  6. According to Forbes, Cruella budget is around $ 100M. I doubt they will lose money with this. With the great reception, maybe even a sequel can be made. "That said, the film only cost around $100 million (most of which is absolutely on the screen, natch)."

  7. I really expect upcoming Mission Impossible sequels will be the main HLW movies local audience very enjoy. Not $300M level. $200~250M each of them is what Tom Cruise deserves.

  8. For all the handwringing over Cruella probably not having much family appeal, there were a lot of families at my (pretty much sold out with restrictions factored in) showing tonight. Could be a good sign for staying power if it's appealing to multiple demographics.

  10. I think if F9 failed that merely show that fatigue to the franchise is real that even the pent-up demand can't save it. They provide a update of 46.7m up to Monday.

  12. I don’t quite know what this sentence is trying to say, but... vaccination pretty much *is* the solution once and for all. With some boosters later on, potentially. That”s not irrational, that’s just paying attention to the facts. The best choice is no masks or distancing though, which is what all chains are rapidly moving toward. Distancing tends to be more constrained at the federal/state restriction level, so it’s coming 2nd, even if chains might have chosen masks+no distancing over no masks+distancing if given the choice.

  14. IM of 9.5-10.5 was pretty much the expectation, sure it would have been nice to go over 10 with the inflated Sun but I agree with john here — pretty normal for a sequel to a 2018 movie with 11.67 IM. Would have had the same IM expectations for a MDW release of this in a non pandemic version of 2020.

  19. At least june is relatively empty and I think covid situation in USA is still improving. And if Canada somehow manage to come back online, there may be one or two weeks of good hold. I am now worry about the 2nd week hold what if the movie collapsed as if it is coming off from a 150m opening.

  23. Cruella's number is mediocre but for a movie available on Disney+ and on torrents it did ok. I know a lot of people that watched and all of them downloaded it illegally.

  24. We’ll still never, ever know Cant help but think if Cruella was anything else but Disney, the trades wouldn’t be so kind. Strange considering the studio did absolutely zero for cinemas during the much tougher times.

  27. I highly doubt they would hit Furious 9 level on average. But yes, they are very important for Sep & Nov. Actually, local bureau want not only Shang-Chi and Eternals but also Nomadland. Disney rejected the release plan of Nomadland due to the controversies about Zhao, who also directed Eternals. If Zhao didn't handle a big Disney title, the studio probably didn't care about the online fights and kept releasing it in China. But the fate of Eternals was already tied up with that movie. Disney thought it would be better for them to cancel the release plan of Nomadland, giving Eter

  28. Off topic, but one of these days we’re going to have to address CyberPunk 2077. One of the most incredible entertainment flops in modern history. People were so amped for this game they harassed journalist that reported that staff on the title were being overworked and underpaid.

  29. You literally have no facts to prove it yet. So far we can only prove the reduction but not sustainability of the current trend. Unless people can go on with a relatively lax environment without seeing another major resurgence consistently for at least 12 months, we are just sitting on the end of the tunnel light.

  32. Like how does it feel like a lost cause? I don't understand. It's doing well overseas in a handful of countries, despite the Chinese drop. It might at least do 600 million globally when all said and done. A Quiet Place 2 was Hollywood's first sign that the box office is on the right path. F9's going to be the real test. If F9 fails, that might make the studios real skiddish over their blockbusters.

  33. Was just poking around Disney+ and saw this: It looks so pretty. 🥰 Also in better news, Event Cinemas haven't been showing Disney movies until almost their release dates since I think they were mad with Disney for their missing theatres with Soul and Mulan, but with Cruella they put it up at least 10 days before (might've been more but not sure). But I checked and now both BW and Shang-Chi are listed, so I'm happy about that. Now all I'm waiting for is for tickets to go on sale because I will be buying the fuck out of them for IMAX previews asap.

  34. @Ethan Hunt we can all say the same for Tom Cruise. Immensely talented actor, but wasting his talent on just Mission Impossible and mi type movies. As for boxoffice, AQP 2 has done extremely well and Cruella did fine too. I think we need a blockbuster MCU movie with excellent reviews and no same day streaming nonsense to shake things up. F9 seems like a lost cause. Not feeling it now.

  37. Conjuring 3 did $3.8m here in the UK with serious capacity limitations. The second did $6.9m but was set in the UK and had no pandemic. So I’d agree. Maybe $15-20m because of pandemic and HBOMax.
