  1. After 6 or so years I've decided to step down from my Admin role on the forums. In 2020 I have found it hard to be on the forums enough to do a proper job of moderating and after much deliberation I decided it would be better if I stepped down. I'd like to personally and publicly thank @Shawn for the opportunities he has provided me. As someone who was not an active forum poster and pretty quiet in general it was a honor to be asked to join the staff. @Water Bottle you have always been supportive, especially when it came to my Derby requests and @Plain O

  2. Hello BOT community. Today I have some news to share with y'all. I am stepping aside as "Chief Admin" and instead taking a different role in the staff. I remember as a small-time poster from Box Office Mojo being extremely discouraged when we found out that BOM decided it wasn't worth bringing back it's forums. I remember helping Shawn set up the forum and in exchange he hired me as a moderator. My original idea was simply to moderate the TV forum but I think Shawn and I meshed together very well so I became an Admin then when he stepped back because he got too busy, the Chief Admin role. I wo

  4. Yeah, I saw internal numbers from a major studio that have it going $68m+ for the weekend based on numbers from today and the preview, but let's wait for ACTUAL numbers and not just a Deadline half assed "update". Did we forget already that Deadline was the one predicting like a $40m range opening like 24 hours ago?

  5. Hello! It's with great pride that I'm proud to announce that @Cap and @Eric #RIPChadwick have both been promoted from being general moderators to Junior Admins. I believe that both will do a good job and should provide an active leadership presence amongst the staff and community at large. They have been exemplary moderators who have handled issues with a good head. Eric is also a creator of some of the best weekend threads this site has seen. I believe that with the two of them, along with some changes I'll soon be making behind the scenes on how the staff works, will help ensure that the mod

  7. I can't express enough what an incredible victory this weekend is for movie theaters. After 18+ months where everything from the pandemic to negativity to streaming tried to kill it, the industry comes roaring back. Not only is this huge for the headlines of smashing the Labor Day records, but the fact that it might beat out Black Widow is just a shot across the bow of Chapek and his minions at Disney that actively tried to kill theatrical exclusivity. What a victory for Kevin Feige and all the actors, directors and producers that stuck to their guns.

  10. Really solid movie that I put on par with the first movie if not better. Sometimes sequels can go overboard with world ending threats or upping the action to ridiculousness but WW1984 keeps it pretty reasonable all things considering. I give props for Jenkins for trying something different. The 80s tone and the awesome soundtrack (Zimmer did an amazing job) made this fun but also hopeful with optimistic messages. Great performances by Pascal and Wiig in particular.

  11. IDK, should you? MORE LIKE: 😇 Hello! Thank you all for this opportunity. I won't front, I'm a little daunted by the whole endeavor. I don't think that's a bad thing. My moderating philosophy is I think we have a phenomenal user base, and I want a lighter touch so people feel free to engage in robust and lively discussions. This place ultimately is about movies and cinema, television and streaming, and it Should. Be. Fun. I am all for Art Gratis Artis, but it's called entertainment. As we have seen through

  12. It is almost December 25 here on the East Coast, so I think it’s time I give out this message. So...been a long 12 months, hasn’t it? I’m not going to pretend I’m a genius for saying this, but I think it’s fair to say 2020 was rough for all of us. We all know the big reasons why, but for our box office hobby, it's an obvious one. We were forced to look at VOD charts to pass the time for most of the year, and the theatrical experience is in the most dire straits it’s ever been. There’s a chance this forum could lose the very thing we used to discuss every day. Some may argue otherwi

  14. @Borobudur Dear Sir, The tracking thread is an immense resource of this board. And the people in this thread who post numbers do it voluntarily and on their own time. Please do not insult them by implying what they do is a waste of time. Tracking lower number movies is incredibly useful in the long run. Since not everything is going to behave like a big Marvel Event Movie. You have also been banned from the thread for two weeks.

  16. A N Y W A Y I just got back from the theater, and honestly, I think I'm in the best mood I've been since 2019. We drove down to Newington, and it was A REAL THEATER. With stadium style seats, and recliners, and drinks and popcorn that was too expensive and too big for anyone to consume. I rounded the corner and saw the GIANT FLOOR TO WALL SCREEN and cried. Not tear cry, but scream for joy cry. My friend told me she'd never seen me so excited. I was in HEAVEN. We got like SEVEN TRAILERS and I wasn't even mad at it taking so long. OMGZ ETERNALS IN PREMIUM FORMAT. I

  19. Free Guy’s performance is a textbook example of what a movie would never have without theater exclusivity. Word of mouth and headlines about how well it’s doing. It creates a storm of people wanting to see it. The more exclusive it is the more of an event it is. Which ultimately means even better performance when it does come to digital etc as if you didn’t see it you’ll still associate it with success, then buy it/rent it. Day and date is so much more of a here today, gone tomorrow situation. There’s just no comparison. As soon as you hit digital you’re just another comm

  22. So I guess no more guesses. My original intention was to have 21+ as its first issue of Shang Chi in 2021. Though I should have seen possibility to decipher 21.17 or 21.7, because that is quite likely if evening go as planned.

  27. Ok you are just being unreasonable with that Sunday drop. This is Labor Day weekend. Why on earth would it have a worse Sunday drop than BW? Anyway it's funny how many people were saying that this movie was gonna open with 30 or 40 million after TSS's OW and now an 8.8 preview is being treated as a disappointment (and btw 8.8 was entirely in the range that the tracking thread was predicting).

  28. It’s solid. Real solid actually. Highlights come from the family drama, which has decent weight to it, and some stylish fight choreography that is really exciting and full of creative set pieces that Cretton clearly had a blast developing. A solid ending to Brad Allan’s career IMO. More specific standouts include the second half, especially in regards to the finale, and Tony Leung’s performance. He’s easily the best of the main ensemble IMO, though everybody does a good job here. I’m sure Marvel nerds will get a kick out of it.

  29. Yeah, right. She made questionable comment after questionable comment. There is exactly one person who is to blame for all this, and it's her and her alone. Trying to twist this into people trying to silence others is absurd from start to finish. Maybe you can excuse her first comments, but everything that followed was a gongshow. She lied about the pandemic, she lied and spread conspiracy theories about the election again and again. And then she agreed with a completely lunatic comparison to the Holocaust. Every company has the right to decide who it wants to work with
