  1. Because you want to know what you're getting yourself into before you decide to drop 60, 70 or 100 bucks on movie night out with your family. It's not just movies that are expensive, its everything. Everything has gone up to the point of insanity. So when you have original films and they struggle to break even or even come close to seeing black, just realized that people are more than willing to wait for those ones to come on Netflix or prime or Disney or whatever in the next month or two. But you want to pry money from people? Give them something that they at least know they're familiar with. That's why the name recognition, at least the way I see it, is more important maybe that has been ever.
  2. The Mickey mouse club, remember the Titans murder by Numbers and now all of this. The guy is pretty amazing.
  3. That was a pretty amazing performance from Ryan Gosling and slash and everybody else.
  4. So does any of this poor things love suggest that Oppenheimer might not win best picture?
  5. This is the best rom-com I've seen in ages. So glad it's crossed 200 mill.
  6. I saw Argyle this past week. I thought the first half was incredibly hard to get through and then once a bit of the plot twist is revealed it gets much better. It honestly felt like I watched two different movies. Overall I'd probably give it a 5 out of 10.
  7. First of all I've never heard of Robin Williams daughter, had no idea she was in the movies and I don't think 99% of the population know she's in movies either. And seriously doubting as far as her chances of having some kind of career because one movie that was dumped on super bowl weekend bombed. Could you imagine if people wrote off Sylvester Stallone after he did F.I.S.T? Can you imagine if people wrote off Matt Damon after he did The legend of Bagger Vance? Imagine if people said Kevin Bacon wouldn't have a career after he did quicksilver? You don't judge a person after one movie. End of story.
  8. Remember When Taken open super bowl weekend and everybody thought it was going to crash and burn and then it ended up opening very well and of course the rest is history.
  9. If you can dodge a wrench, then you can dodge some balls.
  10. Just dropping by to say that it's awesome to see Anyone but You claim the number one spot even if it is just a monday.
  11. Why don't you see it first before making silly comments like this?
  12. Completely random post that has nothing to do with the box office but after I saw anyone but you, I started getting pretty sick and the flu symptoms came on pretty quickly so I spent last night under the covers with a space heater on just watching random movies. Hows this for three pack? We started off with pretty in Pink which I haven't seen in probably 5 years and it's still a fantastic movie. Then keeping with the Andrew McCarthy theme I watched Less than Zero and again haven't seen this one in probably a decade and it's still amazing. And then we end of the night I watched revenge of the Sith and it's still massively entertaining and one of my favorite Star wars movies. Like I said completely random post but just felt like sharing.
  13. I enjoyed the original mean girls. I think this one looks absolutely horrible. Maybe it's not aiming at my demographic anymore but there wasn't one part of the trailer that made me want to see the movie, in fact it did the complete opposite.
  14. So I got off work early today and I just went to see whatever film had the earliest start time and that happened to be Anyone but You. I didn't really know anything about the movie going into it and I only discovered who Sydney Sweeney was about a couple of weeks ago. To say that I enjoyed the film is an understatement. It reminded me of all kinds of classic romantic comedies like When Harry met Sally and Love Actually and silver linings playbook and a huge borrow from bridesmaids.... Just to name a few. I didn't find it overly funny but I was completely engaged with pretty much every single character and it's amazing how the film makes your roots for the two to get together. The entire film was fantastic, the last 15 minutes is some of the best stuff I've seen in any romantic comedy. Great to see Bryan Brown again as well. He used to be a staple in the '80s and '90s and then he just disappeared. The word of mouth on this is obviously amazing and like I said I can see why.
  15. The local theater I go to in one of the northern suburbs of Toronto is terrible terrible terrible now. I probably get 20 minutes worth of commercials and trailers as well and the people who come to the movies now are some of the most rude and ignorant troglodytes you can possibly imagine. Talking throughout the movie, surfing texting I've even had people take phone calls in the theater before and it's not an exaggeration. I just find some of the youth these days or young adults just have no courtesy or respect for anybody else around them.
  16. That's ridiculous one is a twist the other one is disingenuous marketing about your film you're duping people into getting them into the theater. You're not confident enough you can sell your movie as a musical so you trick people.
  17. I don't think people are saying that people hate musicals. I think people are saying that if you're going to make a musical then market it as a musical. Don't leave it as a surprise for people.
  18. I am so tired of these actors crying these crocodile tears over not making what they're worth. This is not an industry that rewards you for being really really good at your craft. It rewards you by bringing butts into the seats. When Whoopi Goldberg broke out in the 80s she was incredibly well paid because they could put her name above the credits and people would flock to see her movies. Henson is a phenomenal actress and it's nice when you see her show up in a film. But if you put her name about the credits it's not going to excite anyone and have him go holy shit I can't wait to see the new Taraji P. Henson movie. You don't like making 3 million dollars a year acting? Then go get a job on broadway. Go get a job at a warehouse to pay you 25 bucks an hour. You knew what you were getting into when you got into this business and if you all of a sudden think that just because you're getting praise and Oscar nominations that the money is going to come with it then you just ignorant fool. Studios need roi on their investment and if you're not doing it you're not going to get the massive bucks.
  19. It's not that musicals are bad, it's that people were misled by the marketing. If I went to a horror movie assuming in the trailers I was in for a regular normal gorefest or a supernatural fright fest or however it was that they advertise it and then Jason voorhees starts singing and his victims start dancing I'd be livid and I would tell people not to go see the movie no matter how good it was. I think if you're disingenuous to the audience that you're seeking and you're too afraid to market your moving the way it's supposed to be marketed then don't make it that way. Or what they should have done in the first place is let everyone know that these movies are musicals. Then at least people know what they're getting themselves into and they're not shocked when they sit down in theater and see something they werent expecting to see. Completely anecdotal here, I realize this, but my brother and four nieces saw Wonka and when I asked my brother about it he said it was good but he had no idea it was a musical and if he knew that it was he probably wouldn't have gone. Maybe this is the kind of word of mouth that is spreading right now.
  20. BLACK TRAUMA PORN?? What kind of insane idiom is that? Every time I think I've heard it all something new and ridiculous just pops its head up.
  21. For some reason this reminded me of the quote from Jaws LOL You make a movie called Priscilla everyone goes hunh what? You make elvis, and we got a panic on our hands on the 4th of July.
  22. When I first heard that the color purple was being remade, I thought we would see similar numbers to West side story. I didn't really know who was going to appeal to besides one demographic. So when I see these incredibly fantastic numbers being reported, it reminds me of how much the Fanboys overreact to everything. The only reason why you guys are disappointed with the numbers is because there's some astronomical tracking numbers that came out. If tracking hadn't existed, and this movie actually does get to 100 million I think people will be doing backflips for it. But now disappointment is setting in because the numbers were false when tracking came out and that's going to diminish the color purple's final gross. Even though it shouldn't. I'm just a fringe box office follower now but if you would have told me a month ago at the color purple has a chance to make $100 million domestic and say 200 million worldwide I would have said those who have been fantastic numbers.
  23. I don't know what it's like in the US but the two week school break here in Canada starts this week and goes into next week obviously. So there should be very strong numbers for the next 14 days.
