Shia has a history of problematic erratic behavior with female co-stars and many abuse allegations (I linked Mia Wasikowska's experience with him in 2016) People make excuses for male actors being assholes due to "method acting" but it really isn't an excuse. Given Shia's history I'm willing to believe he was being an asshole

I think what's most likely was Shia was his weird and asshole self during rehearsals in the name of "method acting" and Florence didn't like it/felt uncomfortable and avoided rehearsing with him. Since Florence was avoiding being around him and probably made it clear she didn't like him, Shia probably was like "Okay I quit" Olivia tried to make peace and begged him to stay and in the video threw Florence under the bus by painting her as a diva that was "uncommitted." Shia still said he was done and WB/Olivia just had to accept it and recast the role.

Shia has been problematic with female co-stars in the past. Mia Wasikowska said he "terrified her" https://www.complex.com/pop-culture/2012/08/shia-labeouf-harassed-mia-wasikowska-during-filming-of-lawless https://www.complex.com/pop-culture/2016/02/lawless-director-john-hillcoat-working-with-shia-labeouf

“I say this as someone who is such an admirer of his work. His process was not conducive to the ethos that I demand in my productions. He has a process that, in some ways, seems to require a combative energy, and I don’t personally believe that is conducive to the best performances. I believe that creating a safe, trusting environment is the best way to get people to do their best work. Ultimately, my responsibility is to the production and to the cast to protect them. That was my job,” Wilde said." I guess she didn't DIRECTLY say she fired him but she definitely implied it.

Oh I hate that this basically makes Harry Styles stans seem vindicated. Casting Harry is not worth the drama it brings to a movie imo. i doubt any of this would have come out if had not been cast. But yeah Olivia is so weird for this. I think she and and Florence definitely had some issues and Olivia has been trying to act super nice publicly with her constant praise of Florence, which was making Florence look a bit bad for being for basically not acknowledging her. But going as far as to say she fired Shia to protect Florence when that wasn't the case is so weird. FKA twigs hadn't come out with her abuse allegations at this point but his very turbulent history with Mia Goth was pretty well known. I remember a video of him threatening to hit her if she doesn't stop something and him saying "this is what makes people abusive" . Also his erratic behavior on sets was also pretty well known so a video seemingly siding with Shia over Florence is definitely not a good look. Also ugh with "Miss Flo"

lol also he had some knowledge of Weinstein's crimes as well (against Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie) and still continued working with him. Angie even claims they argued about it 💀 At least he's not directing or writing it lmao. This looks a lot like Spotlight. I do love journalism movies though.
