  1. I think Ender's Game marketing has been more saturated than most on this board tend to say- I see a ton of ads for it during games and the couple of shows I actually watch
  2. The book has sold a ton of copies and actually has a pretty big fanbase of 20 years plus, so it's certainly a pretty good start (some schools teach it, too.) I like the book itself even though I hate the author, so I'll check it out. If anything, I would have protested the book years ago before I protest the movie and make Harrison Ford suffer.
  3. 1. Will Ender’s Game debut at #1? Yes 2. Will at least 2 films gross at least $20M this weekend? No 3. Will Last Vegas make at least $16M? Yes 4. 4. Excellent numbers for alot of movies this weekend, all things considered. Extremely good fall so far.
  5. Interested in seeing Bad Grandpa If I could scrounge up some friends to go with me. I knew there was no way it did under 25. Just too much hype. I'm so happy about the wonderful runs of Gravity, Phillips, and (so far) 12 Years a Slave- just unbelievable movies that deserve every single penny.
  6. Might be a tiny bit against the grain, but that's a little lower than I thought for Grandpa and higher than I though for Counselor, considering no buzz.
  7. I actually know quite a few people who saw BP last night. Not surprised if it hits 30+

[3,000 points] Captain PhillipsBonus #3) Which film will have the worst drop in the Top 15? [3,000 points] Machete Kills
  9. I think Foxcatcher was a legit contender, but I never saw Monument's Men being there. Mediocre trailer, and early test screenings say it is quite average
  10. This movie was fucking visceral and incredible. Brilliant on every level, and heart wrenching. Audience loved it. It could have been one of the best dramas of all time, but it was held back by one semi glaring flaw that lilmac touched on- the dialogue. Didn't make sense for anyone beside Northrup and Cumberbatch to talk like that. Way too elegant for stupid southerners and life long slaves. Took me out of the movie a couple of times. But otherwise, perfect A
  11. Lmao, so piggybacking off our earlier discussion, there's a Cinemascore rep outside of 12 Years a Slave tonight, and they just handed me a survey as I walked in. I havent seen a Cinemascore rep once on thousands and thousands of movies ive seen, and I finally see one the night we talk about here.
  12. That number is pretty spectacular for CP, correct? Also, 12 Years has a great theater average, but it could be even higher. The only theater in D.C. showing it is only allowing people 21+ to watch it, for some reason. Very lame, really wanted to go see it this weekend. If other theaters are doing this, it might hurt it ever so slightly.
  13. 25 million for Carrie would be awesome considering the middling marketing and lacking buzz. Really benefited from the empty horror market. Imagine what Insidious 2 could have done as the only horror film two weeks from Halloween.
  14. 1. Will Gravity gross more than $33M? Yes 2. Will Carrie make at least $22M? Yes 3. Will Escape Plan debut in the Top 3? No 4. Will Captain Phillips fall less than 30%? No 5. Will 12 Years A Slave have a higher per theater average than All Is Lost? Yes 6. Will Machete Kills fall less than 63%? Yes 7. Will Rush have a Friday increase of at least 85%? Yes 8. Will Prisoners have a better Sunday drop than Don Jon? Yes 9. Will at least one film have a Saturday increase of 70% or more? Yes 10. Will at least 2 films decrease on Saturday? (please use at least 2 decimal places) [5,000 points] 24.46 Bonus #2) What finishes in spots: 7. Prisoners 9. Slave 11. Insidious 15. Baggage Claim
  15. Exhibitor Relations ‏@ERCboxoffice43m GRAVITY scored $4M on Tuesday, $132.5M total--$29M of that from IMAX. Big drop, but expected after Columbus Day
  16. That's what makes it so great for me- it STILL managed to be so intense and exciting even though everyone knew what would happen. That's also the highest compliment I paid to Argo, as well. Argo kept me on the edge the whole final scene even though I knew what would happen. It's about the journey, not the destination.
  17. I loved it. Brilliantly made, and Hanks and the pirates were all incredible. I was actually most impressed by Muse in the whole movie, even more than Hanks. A (top three or four of the year for sure)
  18. My Captain Phillips crowd was older than most movie crowds, but it wasn't like it was the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel or some shit. Mostly people in their 30s and 40s. Similar to what Argo had last year. And this was an 85 percent full theater.
  19. Well, it's my least favorite movie ever, so yea, that warrants an F
  20. My least favorite movie of all time that actually tried. F-
  21. Monuments Men ain't winning nothing beside techs, or getting nominated, for that matter.
  22. Brilliant October, but the only thing hurting it for me is the lack of a true horror movie (Carrie barely counts). It's still Halloween month. Halloween is what makes October great. Even if the quality isn't usually high, I need at least one scary movie.
  23. Only in the northeast are public schools closed during Columbus Day. The rest of us have wised up. Is it safe to say, in a pretty great year, that Gravity is easily the box office story of the year? Also, besides Departed, is there other similar comps to Captain Phillips? I'm hoping there's a chance for 115+
