You def should man! It's thrilling. Also, what did you think of Sinister. I know Jack Nevada and a couple of others love it, but I just saw it two weeks ago for the first time and.......eh.
I'm usually scared at least a little in every horror movie (yea, I know, I'm a pussy) not named the Evil Dead, but most of them don't ever truly terrify me, and even less stay with me more than a day after I see them. Sinister and Conjuring were scary the day of.....but not much afterwards. The Ring, REC, and PA all stayed with me for weeks.
Brilliant number for Insidious- I knew the first was very popular (and pretty damn good), but holy shit.
Also, alot of found footage movies are the bomb.com. Especially the first three PAs and ESPECIALLY the criminally underrated REC/Quarantine, two of the scariest movies I've ever seen
We will learn about August: Osage County tonight. Strong reviews for DBC and Mandela, but they seem far more likely to just be showcases for their respective lead actors. Gravity and Twelve Years a Slave are the only sure things at this point, though word on Phillips is probably leaning towards it being very positive. Rush and Prisoners could sneak in depending on how else the year crumbles.
Massive early praise for MM, Elba, Firth, Ejoifor, Jackman, and Hanks from recent screenings, in addition to the already huge praise for guys like Jordan, Hawke, Whitaker, and Redford from earlier this year. And we're still waiting to hear about alot of guys- DiCaprio, Fassbender, Carrell, and Bale. Fucking stacked year. Could be one of the best ever.
2001 is the Citizen Kane of sci fi films- brilliantly made and seriously influential, but I just can't understand how a modern audience would be that entertained by it unless they're dissecting it for a film class.
Uh, what? This doesn't make sense on several levels, and is a completely made up, nonsensical example. It's called science fiction. Aliens are the definition of science fiction. E.T. took place in modern times with one alien and minimal sci fi stuff otherwise- does that make it not a sci fi movie? And wouldn't your fake example put it along the same lines of Green Hornet and Kick Ass? What am I missing here?
Last night was the first night of football season, and I figure football and the hard R genre action movie have at least a pretty damn big crossover. Might have done 1.2+ on a normal night. Not an awful figure.

Sounds like a potential bemoth in alot of ways- critically and commercially. Could be both a super crowd pleaser and an Oscar contender, ala most of the Oscar movies of last year.
Plenty, though I don't think STID was one of them. Just this summer, I think WHD, Pacific Rim, and 2 Guns were hurt the most. There's plenty of examples through the years. Very fun to debate
