  1. Thanks. I'm usually done way before that so I never check it. But this week is too tough!
  2. Exactly. Actually, I'm seeing a 1050 east coast showing of it, if I get home around 1, that's before the deadline, right?
  3. I'm number nine! It could be the difference between top five and falling out of the top ten. This sucks. Damn you baumer!
  4. With Turbo getting an A cinemascore, that whole bonus pretty much hinges on whether Conjuring can defy typical horror WOM and get one too. Fuck.
  5. This movie has really stayed with me as well as any this year. I hope to see it again soon
  6. Tough to predict a drama winner this year. I stopped watching Mad Men three seasons ago. I'd say it was the frontrunner, but alot of the buzz from this season cited it was a decline in quality from the one previous, and if that one didn't win.... Then again, as a huge Homeland fan, even I can admit this season was a dramatic drop off from season one. Season one was one of the most brilliant things I've ever seen on TV, but this season just felt like a good season of 24 (the second half of it at least). I'm catching up on Breaking Bad, and I'm only through two seasons and change, but holy shit. This show is genius. I fully understand the hype. If this season was as good as season 2, it deserves the win. But still, it's a half season in a competitive year with the final season coming up. Might have to wait. Dowton Abbey is a sensation that will get nominated always but won't ever win the big one, and rightfully so. Don't get the hype. House of Cards is just happy to be here this year. As a political communication major going to school in D.C., I can't help but say that, against all odds, this show is a little overrated. With all that said, maybe my favorite show, Game of Thrones, actually has a legit shot this year. I'd be more confident if NCW had rightfully picked up a nom, but my baby boo Clarke did to make up for it. It has the least going against it- it was an improvement over last season, it isn't close to the finale, and it has experience at this point. It also had the most talked about moment on scripted TV in years this seasons. It is the highest rated and most popular of the shows nominated. Any chance it does it?
  7. Is it just me, or does that number seem pretty solid? It doesn't seem to be as bad as some of yall are making it out to be
  8. It isn't really just the characters, that was only a minor complaint in a broader diatribe. I just didn't like There Will Be Boredom. Personal taste thing. NCFOM certainly deserved the Oscar over it.
  9. That's why I changed it from likable to compelling, because I realized the same thing. Besides Plainview (obviously) and maybe Dodd, nobody really compelled me to be very interested, even Quell. Also, Gizzopher, what I really hope is that Inherent Vice lands a little closer to the BN/PDL side of the spectrum while maintaining the artistry of his past two films, sending us both home happy.
  10. Shit this made the SOTM even more difficult.
  11. That was a typo- I meant likable characters but left out a word. Though perhaps truly compleling is a better word. No doubt that they're interesting and well acted, but put in a cynical movie with no real point, no matter how beautiful it is shot, I just couldn't get behind them
  12. Paranormal Activity 2 is the best balance between the isolation, creepiness, and originality of the first and the sheer terrifying intensity and classic jump scares of the third.
  13. Paul Thomas Anderson is dreadfully overrated, but with a caveat- I really liked the PTA who directed Boogie Nights and Punch Drunk Love. Both are clever, witty, and likable movies on top of his artistic merits. But Blood and The Master are two of the more boring and overrated movies of the past decade- no heart, no emotion, no plot, no characters, nothing but beautiful shots, good acting and an empty soul. I don't think he can be called overrated because plenty of people don't like him, but outside of Edward Scissorhands, I'm not a fan of Tim Burton at all. I would say Malick, but he doesn't make movies, he makes cinematic pretension.
  14. The Conjuring might have a real shot at this, honestly.
  15. Why should people be judged for movie taste? That's nothing political or social- it's just what people like to spend their money on and be entertained by.
  16. People have every right to watch what they want to watch, you can't judge them as people because of it.
  17. Wouldn't be stunned at all if this was the exact list
  18. Book is mediocre and contrived, though intense and interesting enough. So basically, it's like any Dan Brown book. I actually really enjoyed the Angels and Demons movie, but Da Vinci Code sucked. Hanks is a good Langdon, but as talented as Howard is, they need to bring a new director. His style is so bleh with these movies.
  19. Some good things could certainly be done with that concept, yes. I think a This Is The End/The Purge crossover movie would be a smashing success.

  21. That's true, but I think there is room for well received films to be redone, too. Also, still waiting on that reboot of "They Saved Hitler's Brain"
  22. I bet 75 that One Direction's movie does over 25 OW, and another 50 that 2 Guns does over 32
  23. There may be a topic like this, so forgive me if there is, but I thought it seemed interesting. Obviously, everybody at some point or another finds a reason to hate remakes of older movies, and for good reason- alot of classics shouldn't be remade, and it sucks the originality out of Hollywood. But there IS a few great old movies I think that could stand to be remade, whether a genre classic or just a solid movie. My personal choice is the Exorcist- one of my favorite novels of all time, I think with a great cast and a focus on character, this could be remade as an incredible period horror movie with someone like Bale and Ford as the lead priests. It'd be awesome, even if the original was a classic. Any other movies that should get remakes/reboots?
  24. Yea, this will hit 100, WOM is good among people I've talked to and the combination of summer legs and curiousity is certainly strong enough to propel it to 105-115
