  1. I like action films too, I can't wait for something like Die Hard. But BTTH looked like a Direct to DVD movie. Maybe it's because I've always loathed Stallone (Arnie's films are just better). Then again, I wanted to see Haunted House for a time too, and everybody told me that looked stupid, so enjoy it!
  2. Very happy for Warm Bodies, what a grand number. Can't wait to see it tomorrow night. Also, I cannot think of a single reason on the entire planet anybody besides Algren would want to see Bullet to the Head. Just looks awful.
  3. CBS is broadcasting the game this year, and Die Hard already had a deal with Fox to completely sponsor the previous two rounds of NFC games. So the Yippie Ki Yay postgame show might have something to do with it.
  4. Yea, it seems like the projections think that the SuperBowl is a week early this year. Anyway, even if it's below supposed "tracking" expectations, I'm really impressed by HG. I thought it was ending up closer to 9 million than 19 million. Good for it.
  5. That's actually still impressive for Hansel, as long as what Baumer predicts come to fruititon. I don't see why it would fall off a cliff- no rush factor, January, solid WOM. I think it does around 17 million, which is five mill more than I predicted for it.
  6. The exposure the Super Bowl gives literally everything it touches makes it worth the money. It isn't about convincing the public in one shot, it's about gaining attention. If you factor in bars and stuff like that, about 150 million Americans watch the game. That's at least 3/4 of the regular movie going public.
  7. Those were just examples. There's more A-Listers than that- Cruise, Hanks, DDL, etc.
  8. There is a big difference between A-List and genuine draws that people will rush out to see. A-Listers I consider very well known stars who can be huge assets in commerical-friendly projects or ensembles. Draws have some kind of transcendent or large appeal that will guarantee solid business unless the project is J.Edgar obscure. Draws are Will Smith, Liam Neeson, Denzel, Tatum, Adam Sandler, Leo, and RDJ, at least IMO. A-Listers are people like Wahlberg, Clooney, Pitt, Jolie, Damon, and The Rock.
  9. Anything above about 16 million is geniuenly shocking for Hansel. I felt no buzz for that movie until today, and even then it wasn't very much. That'd be nice to see that Renner has some pull, but maybe he'll start taking good roles again. About expected for Movie 43. I still don't understand how Jason Statham movies keep getting made.
  10. There may be cheaper ways, but there is no bigger way. Want to guarantee a huge audience that can't be promised on the internet? Everyone will see it during the SuperBowl
  11. Sorry, I had to! After the admittedly good first twenty minutes, that movie was pretty much what an annoying, pretentious film student would put out to show how "deep" they are. In a year where almost every other film showed you can be both smart AND entertaining, I hated watching a movie like that. Same as Tree of Life last year.
  12. Love that Django got all three supporting actors, and I'm glad that alot of my choices made it in for best picture. But I really wish that a suprise, blockbuster hit like 21 Jump Street or Ted had gotten into the Best Picture lineup over a particular film that I voted the WORST of the year. And great job, Gopher.
  13. In response to a previous comment, I don't think Arnold turning out to be a liberal governor put his fanbase off. I'm as liberal as it comes, and I've loved a ton of Arnold movies. I, along with the rest of the public apparently, just thought TLS looked awful.
  14. Oh, those are actually going to be affected alot. It was just a play on words with the two biggest stars playing today.
  15. This is a great weekend, but as Jar Jar said, the Sunday drops are too low. Zero Dark Brady and Silver Linings Lewis are going to be the ones raking in viewers today.
  16. Movies like The Last Stand and Bullet to the Head are about as relevant as VCRs. Nobody wants to see crusty stars of yesteryear unimaginetively kill people except a very select few "macho" types like Algren. Now, Broken City is a flop that's a product of bad marketing and concept. They had no way to sell that movie, and the reviews killed it. Mark Wahlberg is, however, a hugely relevant star coming off the biggest hit of his career. And Crowe is at least more relevant than Arnie. So that's weird.
  17. That's a personal opinion. Tatum's a pretty likable guy actually and the movie wasn't any more garbage than some like the Expendables was for men.
  18. This is how Fox News would look if they analyzed box office.
  19. Of course not. In fact, I didn't even hear one guy on this board mention Alexandra Daddario when it came to TCM (not!)People like attractive people, I can't fault them for that, man or woman, black or white.
  20. Judging people you've never heard of and considering all women stupid for liking attractive people , always a great way to express your opinion.
  21. TCM did so well with women because Trey Songz was in it. I know this board doesn't know him, but he's as much a sex symbol among African-American women as some like Gosling is among white women. That explains that one
  22. Since Mama is the only film appealing to teens, it also stands to be the least affected by football on Sunday- another piece of great news for it.
  23. If the two games are close, the ratings are gonna crush everything. Broncos Patriots would have been huge, but with Ray Lewis' story and the rabid Ravens fanbase, plus the classic nature of last year's game, the AFC championship will still be massive. And the 49ers are big as all hell.
  24. I know at least twenty-five people (mainly high schoolers back home) who saw Mama tonight. That number is high, but really not surprising at all. I haven't seen a group coagulate around a movie like this in a while. Huge Twitter buzz, too. It was underestimated from day uno.
  25. Any movie that tries to be profound by showing off how "smart" and "artsy" it is, all while disregarding entertainment value or saying something at all. These are the kind of movies that try to show how "deep" they are by the intricacies of flowers floating in the wind and shit. Tree of Life and, in my humble opinion, the Master are perfect examples.
