  6. Not that it matters much at this point in the film's run, but Monuments Men increasing 23 percent on Thursday seems kinda odd.

  8. Maybe I'll be surprised, but it would need to hold similarly to Great Gatsby from here on out to hit $50 m (and that opened at 10 pm instead of 8 pm).
  9. Would be at $39 m/$40 m if it pulled a Watchmen from here on out (that was at $4.6 m). Prob. not quite as front-loaded in nature as Watchmen, but opening at 8 p.m. instead of midnight could make up the difference and then some in the comparison.

  12. As far as weekend estimates reporting goes, the studios with films towards the top of the charts tend to report slower on those given weekends. Couldn't tell you why, just tends to work that way.
  13. Four-day studio estimates starting to come in: http://www.boxoffice.com/statistics/bo_numbers/studio_extended_estimate/2014-02-16
  14. 1. X-Men: Days of Future Past2. The Hobbit: There and Back Again3. The Wind Rises4. Interstellar5. Dumb and Dumber To6. Muppets Most Wanted7. Big Hero 68. Bad Words9. The Grand Budapest Hotel10. Noah
  15. Doesn't mean that there aren't a lot of GREAT films from each of the listed directors. Google, Wikipedia and Netflix are your friends. On a more serious note, whether someone agrees with those choices or not as being "snubs", wouldn't hurt to at least be familiar with the careers of each of the directors I listed. Maybe at least some of them will strike some interest with some members, and if so, then it made making the post worth it to me. That is all.
  16. Based on what it's looking like, some of the higher-profile snubs IMO:Luis Buñuel, Henri-Georges Clouzot, Vittorio De Sica, Carl Theodor Dreyer, Wong Kar Wai, Buster Keaton, Kenji Mizoguchi, Yasujiro Ozu, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger, Satyajit Ray, Jean Renoir, Preston Sturges, Isao Takahata and Luchino Visconti (just missed). Most surprised by Kar Wai and De Sica not making it among that list.
  17. I believe 5 of those Fellini points were from JarJar
  18. 1. X-Men: Days of Future Past2. The Hobbit: There and Back Again3. The Wind Rises4. Interstellar5. Dumb and Dumber To6. Muppets Most Wanted7. Big Hero 68. Bad Words9. The Grand Budapest Hotel10. Noah
  19. I'm liking the list more since we hit #60 or so. Tarkovsky, Godard, Kazan, Capra, Forman, Malick, Chaplin... among others, since then.
  20. Truffaut's Hitchcock book, in which he interviewed Hitchcock about his films/career is a great read. A lot of great B&W film stills in it as well.
  21. I have D.W. Griffith on my list, but of the films directed by him that I've seen, I do think there is quite the drop-off after Intolerance (granted that is one my favorite films of all-time). And while I'm a bit of a Wes Anderson fan, you can add me to the list of people who don't think he deserves to be on an all-time best list. Simply think there are a number of current directors who should be/are ahead of him given what they've accomplished compared to him. So far, I do like the list for the most part. Glad to see Bertolucci and Luhrmann both make it. That is all.
  22. According to Disney, the Sing-A-Long version of Frozen was responsible for $2.2M (23.6%) of the overall $9.31M weekend estimate.
  23. 1. X-Men: Days of Future Past2. The Hobbit: There and Back Again3. The Wind Rises4. The Monuments Men5. Interstellar6. Dumb and Dumber To7. Muppets Most Wanted8. Big Hero 69. Bad Words10. The Grand Budapest Hotel
  24. Frozen: $2.24M Labor Day: $1.93M Jack Ryan: $1.78M The Nut Job: $1.76M American Hustle: $1.34M I, Frankenstein: $1.09M The Wolf of Wall Street: $1.09M 12 Years a Slave: $431,000 Saving Mr. Banks: $354,000 Devil's Due: $335,000
