  1. I don't think so. Edit: maybe “Power Rangers” is baloney through and through, but as baloney goes, it’s better than you might expect. It packs enough zing to make you forgive the origin-story clichés. And the predictable save-the-world stuff. And the insanely ubiquitous product placement. This quintet of actors is so empathetic and engaging that they more than hold up the John Hughes end of the movie. And if you’re not seeing this for the acting, then at least you get five brightly-clad heroes driving dinosaur-shaped spaceships that eventually meld into one giant, sword-wielding robot. If that’s what you paid to see, then “Power Rangers” delivers it, dollars to donuts. http://www.thewrap.com/power-rangers-review-bryan-cranston-elizabeth-banks-movie/
  2. The current version creatively reimagines the Power Rangers’ origins by establishing them as a team of intergalactic protectors, which certainly provides a high degree of flexibility for potential future iterations. However, a proliferation of memorable teen action-adventure movies have solidified their own loyal followings over the past two decades, leaving the impression that a revived Power Rangers franchise may lack the distinction necessary to sustain a full-fledged relaunch, although its worldwide appeal should assure satisfactory initial results. Israelite, building on his experience with teen sci-fi feature Project Almanac, orchestrates a vastly more complex array of characters, action set pieces and technical resources for a combined effect that maintains dramatic tension even while teetering on the brink of excess. CGI characters and special effects sequences by Weta Workshop are seamlessly integrated and consistently thrilling. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/review/power-rangers-987260?utm_source=twitter
  3. It's early, but the reviews so far are decent. Wasn't expecting that.

  5. “Kong: Skull Island” enters, with lofty ambitions and style to spare. Whether or not it completely succeeds is open for subjective debate, but damn if it isn’t a hell of a ride. 6. I don't know if you've read the book, but both Welliver and Eastwood play nothing roles in the grand scheme of things and it's not surprising they were cut. Way too much material to cram in. Eastwood was perfectly cast though, specifically because he is Clint's son. It was kind of meta.
  7. He didn't cast himself as a 19-year-old. The character is older in his screenplay, which is what he cast from.
  8. Warner Bros. is getting close to making the first big casting for its “Minecraft” movie: Steve Carell. Carell is in talks to join the ensemble of the studio’s big-screen adaptation of the popular video game. Rob McElhenney is on board to direct the pic. http://variety.com/2016/film/news/steve-carell-minecraft-movie-warner-bros-1201918908/
  9. George Takei Reacts to Gay Sulu News: "I Think It's Really Unfortunate" " Takei first learned of Sulu's recent same-sex leanings last year, when Cho called him to reveal the big news. Takei tried to convince him to make a new character gay instead. "I told him, 'Be imaginative and create a character who has a history of being gay, rather than Sulu, who had been straight all this time, suddenly being revealed as being closeted.'" (Takei had enough negative experiences inside the Hollywood closet, he says, and strongly feels a character who came of age in the 23rd Century would never find his way inside one.)
