What about Russian animated movie Big Trip?
-
Rather mild 45% drop in Russia. Around $8,5 mln including CIS countries.
-
As i expected Suzume nicely recovered today. Already nearly ¥78 mln or $11.35 mln. There was no need to panic after week midweek grosses. Family audience returned today.

As mentioned before, Lionsgate was honoring pre-war contracts, unless it's just an excuse of course.Of course it's an excuse. Deadline made it sound like its a big crime to release a movie in Russia right now. And what would you expect from them? They can't say enough of this nonsense and hypocrisy. Distribution company was created in September, release was announced merely a month ago.

They sold the JW4 distribution rights before the war.
The distributor Atmosfera Kino went on market only in last November.

I believe no one planned such long boycott. A couple of months at most. No one expected the Ukrainian affair would last for more than year with no end in sight.
Some people say that Hollywood did not want it at all. That Hollywood was pressed by the government really hard. In such case they thought that a month or two will not be a big deal. People actually believed that in early May all studios will be back.
It happened so fast and was totally unexpected and unreasonable. Disney was first and basically others had to follow. Batman's release was cancelled a day before premiere. Many theaters already got their copies. And after such rash decision there is no way out. Losing millions every month is terrible but bad publicity will be a lot worse. In last 12 months at least 50 independent american movies were released in Russia. But nothing from five majors.

No. John Wick will be released by a new distributor. They only started to work in last November, And the release was announced only a month ago.

Will it be reported in international gross?
Of course, Lionsgate sold the rights for a very good price. Final presales will be around $300k. About half of that for the opening day.

Hollywood is back to Russia?
Lionsgate sold the rights. Apparently the offer was too good to refuse, Only five major studios boycott the country. A lot of independent movies were realeased. People just didnt care about most of them. John Wick 4 is the first major Hollywood movie in 13 months and that helps a lot.

Will make huge money in Russia. Already 19 mln RUB or $245k in presales. For some reason Deadline decided to ignore this.

In Russia, James Cameron's Masterpiece "Avatar: The Way Of Water" was released on 12 January, 2023! Debuting on 3rd place behind "Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre" and "Cheburashka". 2nd Weekend rose the ranking up to 2nd place, displacing Operation Fortune, with just -6.72%, followed by -20.18% on 3rd Weekend.
It wasn't released. Basically it's not so legal shows and Hollywood wouldnt get a single rouble or cent from them.

Cheburashka is a tremendously popular character at least for three generations. Introduced in 1966 with several popular animated shorts but without a feature film before.
