  1. I’m pretty confident this will be a masterpiece as it should for Daniel Craig’s last outing given the track record of His bond films from Casino Royale. This is what I mean :

    1st Casino Royale : Masterpiece
2nd Quantum of Solace : Turd
    3rd Skyfall : Masterpiece
    4th Spectre : Turd
5th No Time to Die : Masterpiece!!??

I think EON (the producers) works best when their backs are against the wall. They know the stakes and deliver every time no one thinks they can.

  2. No Time To Die should safely cross $800m, and settle in as the #2 earning Bond film behind Skyfall. I don't think Skyfall will be topped, given the confluence of events that led to that film's success (50 year anniversary, Adele's popular song, stand alone/character driven story, Javier Bardem)

Unless this film is as well produced and cohesive as Skyfall (which I currently doubt, given NTTD's troubled production history), Billie's song is as attention-grabbing as Adele's (that's a big ask for a teenager), and Rami Malek's antagonist transcends the genre (I freaking love Rami but acknowledge he's not yet reached the global appeal of Bardem), this film will fall just short.

Normally, one would think the "finale factor" would boost NTTD, but given the nature of Bond films (just keep recasting the role), I don't think NTTD would benefit greatly from Craig departing. Die Another Day was the highest earning film for Pierce (but not if you adjust for inflation, GoldenEye wins). I am unable to determine if DAD was produced or marketed with the knowledge that Pierce was leaving the role.

Also, the rest of the NTTD marketing campaign needs to establish the character stakes instead of leaning on what seems to be a complicated plot with lots of moving pieces. The teaser was all over the place (gotta love Universal's marketing team!). Final trailer needs to hone in on Bond's personal journey.

I'm going to predict $85m OW, $225m DOM, $900m WW. I could see the international numbers being lower if this film is more Americanized.

The troubled production history mainly centered on Danny Boyle’s departure. The story and screenplay that eventually became NTTD is an original pitch from Cary Fukunaga. Even with additional scripting from Neil Purvis, Robert Wade, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Scott Z. Burns we can’t really say that NTTD isn’t as “well produced or cohesive as Skyfall.”

Skyfall was not without it’s own hiccups:

Original script from Peter Morgan was re-written by Purvis and Wade.

That screenplay was later polished by John Logan

Production was suspended when MGM ran into financial trouble

Die Another Day wasn’t marketed as Brosnan’s last Bond film because it wasn’t intended to be his last.

  3. I think NTTD has as good of a shot at 1 billion as WW84 & Black Widow. Never underestimate Bond’s overseas appeal, especially in Western Europe. Spectre underperformed, in part, because of the critical/audience consensus but had the USD exchange rate been as strong in November 2015 as it was in Spring/Summer then Spectre would have probably equaled Skyfall overseas. Spectre even outperformed Skyfall in some foreign markets. I’m not saying it’s guaranteed but it’s not as much of a long shot as many think.

To put it another way, I don’t see NTTD doing less than Spectre in almost any overseas market. Five years of anticipation, a strong dollar and general inflation could give NTTD the 1 or 2 spot for biggest overseas gross in 2020.

    My estimate: 275/900

  4. ugh no. billie only appeals to people
anyway i forgot there was a only a 2 year gap between casino and quantum, whats up with that? no wonder QoS was so bad

Why is Lana Del Rey such an ‘obvious’ choice? Eilish has been favorably compared to Del Rey and she holds her up as an inspiration. Del Rey would be a good choice but why not go for someone that can sing and sell some records?

As for QOS, had there not been a writer’s strike, then EON may have pulled it off. None the less, the film is getting more favorable recognition as it ages.

  5. There are currently rumours for Dua Lipa, Beyonce, Ed Sheeran and Billie Eilish all singing the Bond song.

I would not actually be surprised if Billie Eilish got the gig and I think her style suits James Bond quite well. That being said, that rumour website looks like utter nonsense.

Mi6-HQ is one of the premier Bond fan sites. They could have gotten this wrong but they can be trusted.

So 100M is gone for Bond...... can it still get all-time #2 spot?

100M in local currency was never really predicted, although some hoped for it. The estimated target was 80M, which has already been achieved. 90M is likely with 90M+ on the table. Spectre won't match Skyfall in the UK, but for all intents and purposes that wasn't the expectation.

    Box Office News France:

The attacks that took place in Paris last Friday and the closure of many cinemas over the weekend did not prevent the 24th episode of 007 to succeed the best start in 2015 in its first week of release in France, with more than 2 million spectators.

When everything goes wrong, the only one to turn Bond remains. James Bond. According to the ranking published today by CBO Box Office, SPECTRE, the new movie of secret agent in the service of Her Majesty had the fastest start of 2015 with 2.2 million viewers in its first week, despite the attacks that took place in Paris last Friday.

The 24th installment of the adventures of the famous British spy (played by Daniel Craig), released on the holiday of November 11, was attended by 2,203,549 viewers in France to 902 screens, even as the Parisian cinemas had closed their rooms in the aftermath of Saturday attacks in Paris.

James Bond is also stronger than the Minions. SPECTRE and beats the record held so far this year by The Minions, which drew 2,180,641 viewers in its first week of operation.
It's also the best start in France for a James Bond film. The previous James Bond, Skyfall, had collected 1,839,220 viewers in its entire first week in October 2012.

I'd say the big mark is $900m WW.  It only has Japan left to open and the yen is down 25% from 2012.

    Openers: Skyfall vs Spectre

    China: $34.5m (full 7 day - no w/e total available) v $48m

    Australia:  $13.2m v $8.7m

    NZ: $1.7m v $1.3m

    SK: $5.9m v $8.2m

    Comparative Skyfall v Spectre totals after 2nd & 3rd w/e

    UK: $114.5m  vs  $121m

    Germany: $43.45m v $38.7m

    Norway:  $10.1m  v $7.4m

    Sweden: $11.2m v $9.5m

    Denmark: $9.98m v $10.5m

    Netherlands: $12.75m  v $11.8m

    Finland: $5.28m v $5.3m

    Russia: $16.67m v $10.7m

    Poland: $5.5m v $6.5m

    Italy: $12m  v $10m
    Spain:  $9.27m v$5.6m

    Brazil: $8.1m v $5.3m

    Portugal: $1.76m v $1.7m

    Mexico: $5.8m v $8.3m

There's still Japan, India and South Africa. Point taken, though. They're not huge markets for Bond (at least Japan isn't) but they could add $40-$50M combined.
