  1. adieu au langage (2014) i haven't seen this, but i know jake gittes has, and i want to see what he thinks.
  2. having just seen ghostbusters, i'd suggest ivan reitman would come close to fitting this. certainly his career outside ghostbusters isn't much to speak of, with a couple of films receiving box office runoff from ghostbusters and one critical success (dave), but nothing outside that.
  3. man, this was just great fun. "very entertaining, and not unintelligent either, with its supernatural ghost story handled with gentle irony. in fact, it's probably even more prescient in today's era of superhero movies. i'll never understand how the ridiculously stoic bill murray got into the movie business, but he's always likable, even adorable in ways, and here delivers most of the laughs." 6.5/10
  4. coppola is often seen as a 4-hit wonder, with apocalypse now, godfather 1&2 and the conversation making up his 70s masterworks before collapsing into relative critical obscurity from then on.
  5. i don't think there should be any limit on the films people can add. controversial 'sci-fi-esque' films will be on fewer lists and as such be lower on the results. also, 21st century is far too limiting.
  6. i suppose it's time to update this. 9.7 breaking the waves 8.5 fargo 6.3 the watermelon woman 6.3 romeo + juliet 4.0 mission impossible 2.5 happy gilmore 1.5 the nutty professor 1.0 101 dalmations either this year sucked or i've just missed a whole bunch of stuff. any of these look good?
  7. the ending was so ridiculous that my cold, unrepentant soul could only view it as utmost irony.
  8. my list became much more obscure. i feel special.

  10. see, this is what i'd be worried about. movies that bulk up on the horror! action! drama! comedy! are often overstuffed and uninteresting. alien was much more singular in its approach, and as a result was much more singular. (i am exceedingly proud of that sentence)
  11. well, yes. it's childish nonsense.
  12. i just saw the third one from that list, and it was pretty great, 8.5/10.

  15. btw, i do find it very amusing that baumer loves this movie.
  16. i used this quote in my review! http://iadorepeople.wordpress.com/2014/08/06/fight-club-1999/
