  6. up spider-man 2 blade runner titanic dark knight rises how to train your dragon jesus H christ. none of these would make the top half of all films i've seen, let alone the top 100.
  7. the final film in the apartment trilogy is probably my least favourite, but it's still an awesome work of horror, using the apartment as a metaphor for the claustrophobia of mental illness. this one in particular delves into the long history of films ala persona in making people turn into other people. polanski is a great actor as well as director. 8/10
  8. a clockwork orange is a masterpiece, taxi driver is great, and eternal sunshine of the spotless mind is nearly great. good triplet there. shame about the two they were wedged between.
  9. so these are my ratings so far. 100. 99. A there will be blood 98. B harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban 97. C once upon a time in the west 96. 95. B airplane! 94. B+ children of men 93. 10. shakespeare is useless. sad to hear polanksi took his prose directly.
  11. <spoilers below> yeah, there are some pretty emotionally intense moments there, for sure. almost up there with 2001, when, to the background of breathtaking silence, HAL's memory is being slowly destroyed, and we witness the cruel irony of a previously murderous computer experiencing utter terror when disassembled by his emotionally distant human enemy. or perhaps that moment in come and see when the little soviet boy, having gone through earsplitting shellings and tortuous houseburnings, comes upon a photo of hitler, and shoots it. over and over again. each thundering boom heralds a rewind through hitler's past, and the boy thrashes with boundless anger at that photo. until we come to see hitler as a baby. the boy looks. and looks. and stops. i mean, transformers is up there. that part with the robot shitting on the other robot's face for the seventh time. fuck me. it's up there, for sure.
  12. anyway, sunset blvd, citizen kane and pan's labyrinth are all good additions, even if one or two are still marginally overrated.
  13. lewl. you are wrong, and numbers is right. own your opinion. in the spirit of individuality, here is a list of bad movies. saving private ryan is a bad movie. jaws is a bad movie. some like it hot is a bad movie. rope is a bad movie. downfall is a bad movie. city lights is a bad movie. the host is a bad movie. lost in translation is a bad movie. the deer hunter is a bad movie. blade runner is a bad movie. star wars is a bad movie. beauty and the beast (1946) is a bad movie.
  14. you'll all be pleased to know i haven't been locked into a psych ward yet. however even if i had been incarcerated for shooting up heroin due to the inability to handle my suffocating existence, and placed on suicide watch due to my painful awareness of the inexorable march of time, the inevitability of death... ...i still would have finished this countdown faster than ruk.
  15. my favourite bresson to date. baroque, symphonic, mechanical, precise. a riveting tale of escape is told with utmost simplicity and presented with a rare degree of elucidation and clarity. essentially faultless. 9/10
  16. i have it at #111 all-time now, with 8.5/10. but it's still pretty fucking amazing.
  17. it was not bad, until the horribly convenient ending. a bit better than i might have been expecting, though by the end certainly not as good as the start might have indicated, as by the time we get to the seventh monologue served on a platter by the rotary of characters we have to visit just one more time, i'm rather tired of its forced false wisdoms that were so tantalisingly absent for the rest of the film. but the drama itself was pretty okay. 5/10
  18. frozen, life of pi, casino royale. i didn't do a very good job of advertising to the cinema cult.
