  1. Meh, I never expected it to top AUJ but it's going to do pretty well when all is said and done.
  2. Finally, some good news on the Middle-Earth front. Not the best number ever, but solid. I'm still a firm believer in $250 million for DoS.
  3. Only down 17.5% from last Tuesday's already incredible hold. Get ready for some epic Christmas holds/boosts folks.
  4. So in doing that would we officially seperate the numbers? Or just accept that being the opening night it can be included in the official opening day? But I agree completely. If studios started calling it "opening night" grosses they could just create a new record to show off with. Like "Mockingjay Part I breaks opening night record of $18 million etc." That way they get to showcase their wins and we get our charts completely accurate.
  5. So if Anchorman does do $11 million Wed that would be including the $2.3 million from Tuesday evening right? So it is actually an $8.7 million Wednesday. I know it's not a big deal but I'm really tired of "preview" grosses being added into the full first day gross. We've done this shit for a year and a half now and it hasn't gotten any less annoying. Why is it such a big deal to just differentiate between the two? For a movie that broke the OD record or something shoehorning the numbers in there to showoff makes sense, but for all these movies that never had a chance at a record- what purpose does it serve? /end rant
  6. Sounds like Anchorman 2 will be the very definition of a "love it or hate it" film. Also for Tuesday good number for Frozen, not bad for CF, and meh for DoS. Hopefully they all go up.
  7. If Saturday was indeed deflated by the weather, WB really lucked out with that Sunday estimate.
  8. Let's hope this overperformance carries over to it's nationwide release. If I had to pick any one from the slew of Christmas openers I'd want to do well, it's this one.
  9. It's 5:07 AM here on the east coast. Yeah my sleep scheduled has been screwed for a long time.
  10. Great recommendation list. I've never watched a lot of anime but a lot of the ones I did watch/love are on there. Also I can't stress enough how fantastic FLCL is. It is a short, 6 episode series and definitely worth anyone's time and I highly recommend watching it if anyone gets the chance. Also glad to see Gurren Lagann getting some love, it's been in my personal favorite top 3 anime ever since I watched it.
  11. Very true. That was directed at the "only original movies can be a phenomenon" statement.
  12. I agree for the most part, but Shrek 2, Dead Man's Chest, and The Dark Knight were definitely sequels.
  13. I'm kind of surprised Madea opened so modestly. Either way legs will probably get it to around $60-70 million. All the better for Frozen/CF to get where we want them to go.
  14. http://boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=terminator2.htm $204.84 million from a $31.77 million OW. That's 15.5% which is a 6.45x multiplier. Sorry bud the numbers are what they are.
  15. I wonder if Cameron will ever get around to making that Battle Angel film.
  16. I think Godzilla could be huge but He-Man I have a lot of doubt in.
  17. It is very early to be talking about Avatar 2's prospects (it doesn't even have an official release date yet) but I'll just say I bet they thought The Lost World was a surefire increase over JP.
  18. Glad I could help. I think a SM1 to SM2 effect for AoU is likely assuming the film lives up to the original. That would put it at $500-550 million.
  19. I can see it in the same sense that people say they "loved X movie but didn't like the third act" type way. I've always looked at the film series the same way the books are supposed to be looked at- as one. And yeah, when I was 10 and saw RotK in theaters it blew me away. The kind of childhood moviegoing experience is something a lot of people wish they had. Still, what I wouldn't give to relive that experience at my current age.
