  1. Outstanding. I have seen it 5x already. Acting, direction, action, pace, structure, cinematography - all on point. A couple of minor nitpicks: 1) I thought the Zimmer score was a step down but still excellent. 2) Chani's hostility towards Paul towards the end were a tad overdone. It seemed like the filmmakers were attempting to mitigate the "white messiah" trope with a cynical 'native' character. Yet in the books, Chani did have internal struggles between Paul and her people (Fremen), so i'll give the movie half a pass. But no, I didn’t like the Chani hostility. And there was too much of her (but I guess Hollywood can’t have the last shot be on a non diverse person nowadays, can they?). Overall though, I have enjoyed Dune 2 more and more upon repeated viewings.

While it may not quite reach the heights of Part 1, it's 95% as good, and stands as one of the finest cinematic experiences of the past decade.

  2. My main issue with Ridley Scott's portrayal of Napoleon in his film is that, despite its lengthy duration, it rushes through many significant events in Napoleon's extraordinary life. This rapid pacing detracts from the experience, and I believe the story would be better served as a trilogy, although I recognize the financial impracticality of such an approach. This aspect particularly bothers me as I am currently delving into Napoleon's history. Perhaps if I were a less informed viewer, I might have rated the film higher than a B-. However, overall, I found the film somewhat dull and not as engaging as expected, especially surprising given Ridley Scott's talent for crafting action scenes and epic narratives. The final battle scene was a notable exception. My rating for the film stands at B-.

  3. Not in love with the writer/director team but I'm hopeful given what little we saw of Krasinski in the Doctor Strange 2 film....he was excellent.

Don't think the female Silver Surfer news will pan out given that we are post peak-Woke (unless there are multiple Silver Surfers so that way they can check off their equity list).

I am optimistic though. I think FF with the MCU, even in its current form, is better off than with its previous caretakers

  4. Gareth Edwards' "The Creator" is a refreshing stand-out in today's often repetitive sci-fi landscape. What sets "The Creator" apart, for me, is the fact that we have an unique property in a genre filled with adaptations and sequels, a fact that alone makes it worth watching. Edwards is an underrated director, with a good track record of deftly balancing rich storytelling with technical prowess.

John David Washington delivers a strong performance, complemented by a surprisingly adept young "robot" co-lead (I don't know her name). The duo's on-screen chemistry is palpable, adding depth to the film's action sequences, which are as riveting as they are well-executed.

I also really enjoyed the world, the plausible backhistory of the story, and the movie's technology (military, AI, and other types) which felt both innovative and believable, contributing to the story rather than overshadowing it.

  5. I saw an amazing factoid. It was actually cheaper to not release Flash and keep it on the shelf due to the added costs that marketing/prints incurred.

In other news, I hope we see Robin done right in a Batman movie. Despite DCEU's shaky track record, I did enjoy the standalone Batman film.

  6. What are we looking at.....70% drop for BB? Maybe higher?

    Black Adam - 59% drop
    Shazam 2 - 69% drop
    Flash - 72% drop

Looks like Barbie did a little better than I expected. Also became the 10th movie to break $20M in its 5th wknd (dom). Additionally, Oppy became part of the Top 5 IMAX WW club. Oppenheimer's performance is amazing considering it joins $2B+ behemoths and is a biography.
