  1. I ended up just getting the normal Blu-ray, I think it had the best cover art. I'm curious if they'll release another edition later with more content. The tidbits of content with different versions wasn't worth buying any of them over the original to me.
  2. YES I miss it, and I read the books once a year because I can't get enough. And I watch the movies pretty often too (most of them anyway). And I hope she is actually doing an encyclopedia, I remember hearing about it ages ago but I figured it got put on hold or dropped when all the talk about it died down. As much as I love Harry Potter, I wouldn't want her to write any sequels, I think it would just push it too far. I would definitely read them if they were there though. I wouldn't mind some independent stories set in the Harry Potter universe, or perhaps a few prequel books about Voldemort's first rise to power or something. But I figure she's probably done with the series, and she left it pretty well wrapped up (except for the horrible epilogue, but we can forgive her for one bad chapter).
  3. "My friends, you bow to no one" - Lord of the Rings: Return of the King "Now Woody, he's been my pal for as long as I can remember. He's brave, like a cowboy should be. And kind, and smart. But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what." - Toy Story 3 "It's just a flesh wound!" - Monty Python and the Holy Grail "I find your lack of faith disturbing" - Star Wars "You've kept him alive so that he can die at the proper moment. You've been raising him like a pig for slaughter!" - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt 2
  4. Best: Benedict Cumberbatch Liam Neeson Morgan Freeman Patrick Stewart Hugo Weaving James Earl Jones Ian McKellen ALAN RICKMAN
  5. Happy with this list! I love that the Obi-Wan/Darth Maul duel made it. I like the whole end sequence, but that particular duel is awesome because it's the only one in Star Wars (that I can think of) where both are aiming to kill. When I think of action, Star Wars and the Matrix films come to mind, so I'm happy with this haha Really shocked that the Kill Bill fight was left off though

  8. Good idea, I'd contribute. I'm not sure I could make it to 20, but I have some coming to mind already for sure.
  9. Here's my Top 50. Really, after the first 20 or so it mostly becomes a mush of films I like but don't love, so it is hard to name much more than this. Super mainstream list here, but that's pretty much all I get around to =) I'm sure there's some huge omissions from the list I'll kick myself over later, but this is what I turned in. Bolded films are ones I literally have zero complaints about, and wouldn't change a thing about them (even if some I don't necessarily like as much as others), 1. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers 2. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 3. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 4. Toy Story 3 5. Star Trek Into Darkness 6. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 7. Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi 8. Star Trek (2009) 9. The Lion King 10. Star Wars: A New Hope 11. Toy Story 12. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince 13. Kill Bill: Volume 1 14. Beauty and the Beast 15. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone 16. Hugo 17. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back 18. The Avengers 27. The Bourne Identity 28. X-Men: First Class 29. The Matrix 30. Up 31. Despicable Me 32. The Silence of the Lambs 33. Spiderman 2 34. A Bug’s Life 35. 11. Don't particularly like the movie (or really even remember much about it, I think I've only seen it once despite actually owning it and I saw it at midnight opening day...), but his death scene was awesome. I don't even remember how/why, but I remember being amazed by it when I watched it. So I need to see it again for that =)
  12. Star Trek (2009) - Saw it in a Movie Gallery liquidation sale, bought it because a friend said it was good. I wasn't expecting much, but now it is one of my all-time favorite films The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring - Somehow as a kid I was completely oblivious to the Lord of the Rings books, somehow I hadn't even heard of them. Saw this film, and absolutely fell in love with it The Hurt Locker - I'm generally not a fan of war films, but I knew this one won some big Oscars and I was able to buy it for $1. Isn't one of my all-time favorites, but I really enjoyed it when I thought I would hate it Goodbye Bafana/The Color of Freedom - Had to watch this for a Management class at university, so naturally I thought it'd be a bore. Instead I really loved it and thought it was a powerful film (even if it was apparently extremely exaggerated)
  13. Prisoner of Azkaban is actually one of my least favorite of the films... and Deathly Hallows I is one of my favorite. So, I'll choose that one!
  14. I am curious about this. I have friends who didn't read the books and liked the first film a lot, but it also seems like the first two are generally not as well liked as most of the others. I for one love the first one, but I've been in love with the books forever. It was surprising to me to hear people didn't like it (but liked the other films), but perhaps you are right!
  15. 7/12 - 7/18 1. Catching Fire 2. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug 3. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 4. X-Men: Days of Future Past 5. Thor: The Dark World 6. Captain America: The Winter Soldier 7. Jack Ryan 8. The Wolverine 9. Ender's Game 10. Maleficent
  16. This is my biggest problem with Nolan's films. I can't recall ever caring about any of the characters or situations in any of his films. I'm not sure why, but they never click with me on an emotional level.
  17. I'd say the action in STID is more thrilling than Man of Steel (and also much more well distributed throughout the film). I felt much more tension during Star Trek than I ever did with Man of Steel. But I enjoyed the spectacle and intensity of the action in MoS.
  18. Despicable Me 2 - Loved it, but I think I like the original a bit more. Really funny though and overall a great time! (8/10) Monsters University - I'm surprised how much I enjoyed this film. For some reason it really resonated with me, and belongs with the upper tier of Pixar films in my mind (9/10) Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi - Watched the three of these with my friends over a few days. Still a lot of fun and one of my favorite films ever (9/10) Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back - My least favorite of the original trilogy (even though this is everyone's favorite), but it is still fantastic and a fun watch (8/10) Star Wars: A New Hope - A great film and good introduction into the Star Wars universe (9/10)
  19. July 5th - July 11th 1. Catching Fire 2. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug 3. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 4. X-Men: Days of Future Past 5. Thor: The Dark World 6. Captain America: The Winter Soldier 7. Pacific Rim 8. Jack Ryan 9. The Wolverine 10. Ender's Game
  20. Deathly Hallows 2 is so good. So many standout tracks and it fits the film oh so perfectly. Definitely a close 2nd to the Goblet of Fire score to me, for some reason that one is just fantastic to me. But I love DH2 (and DH1 as well). Desplat was a great choice for the final films.
  21. Definitely a medium, but I can see how some might see it as a genre because of the similarity in theme of a lot of animated films. But yea, it is a medium.
  22. Really liked it overall, but I'm not sure how it compares to the first one. I think I liked that one a bit better, but it is hard to tell. I didn't mind the romance elements in this one, but I think I might prefer the first one because of the developing relationship between Gru and the girls. This film did a good job with that as well, but there simply wasn't as much ground to cover. However, I did think this one was a little funnier, even if it wasn't a "clever" funny. I loved El Macho, and the chicken was hilarious, as were the minions (and of course Gru). Lucy took a little time to grow on me, but I came to like her character as well. The animation was really well done, and it had a delightful score/soundtrack, even if not particularly memorable. Overall a really solid film, but I think I'd give Monsters University the edge as far as animated flicks go this summer. Would get an 8/10 or so from me.
  23. I was about to start a thread for this, but I found this one! I have no idea what will even be nominated at this point, but so far I'd pick: Star Trek Into Darkness Oz: The Great and Powerful Monsters University World War Z I'm sure only one (or none) of those will get nominated, but of the scores I've really listened to this year those would get my nominations. I think Monster's University probably stands the best chance of that list to be nominated. I need to check out scores from some smaller films, but blockbuster scores are generally more accessible (mainly because I've seen the films!). The actual nominations will probably be 3-4 "smaller" films with 1-2 blockbusters thrown in there, as usual.
  24. I think "The Lone Ranger" is a 'meh' score, but I do think it is considerably better than Man of Steel and several other recent Zimmer scores. The music isn't necessarily more interesting, but the whole thing feels more natural and organic so it scores some points with me there.
