  1. I've seen way more comments worried about people turned off by musicals than I've seen any evidence that the musical elements is turning anyone off this movie.
  2. I was expecting the trailer to either be really bad or really good, and glad to see it was REALLY good. This movie looks like a totally mad gamble, and I think it's going to pay off. Haters and doubters are in shambles. Pour one out for them the next few months as the hype builds.
  3. It rose so much bc of the switched comps, Dune and Ghostbusters didn't move much lol
  4. There was nothing in that trailer that appealed to me or makes me excited
  5. Yeah saw it at a film festival...I think It's the best film I saw in 2023. But it's hard to recommend. Really would recommend listening to the director talk about the movie, there's a lot of insights into how it was filmed, especially the choices he made (like not being on set).
  6. I was like a 7/10 on part one, liked it, but didn't get the extreme praise. This movie is ALIVE in ways that Dune part one was not. There is so much more depth and volume and scheming. I would say in the first movie, you're visiting Dune. In this movie, bring a stillsuit, because you're ON DUNE. My wife kept looking over at me thinking I was asleep during the movie last night, because I was perfectly still with my mouth open the whole time. I was in a Villeneuve state of trance.
  7. Is there a traditional, overarching plot or is this just a sweeping epic? To me it seems like the second.
  8. Yeahhhhhhhh, so this will be hard to top for my favorite movie of the year. Balls to the wall phenomenal. I'm in awe. Lots of clapping afterward.
  9. I agree with the caveat that this may do huge box office, and become a cultural phenomenon. If that's the case, it'll be in the conversation for Best Picture. Otherwise it's going to be Dune/Mad Max Fury Road, where it wins a ton of Oscars, and people love the movie, but is not a possibility in BP/BD.
  10. Barbie not sure, but Oppenheimer I think is a decent match, think there's a ton of overlap in the audience excited for both films, and they're likely going to be on similar critical footing. Oppenheimer obv had it's own thing with Barbenheimer but I don't think it's that far off, in an overall sense. These boring CBMs with mediocre reviews from directors you've never heard of aren't exactly perfect comps either.
  11. I'm not quite following the logic that we should have lower expectations for Dune 2 because the data is not very good. The pre-sales seem pretty darn good to me...?
  12. Dune 2 looks like a slightly better Oppenheimer right now in terms of daily pace. I realize Oppenheimer finished incredibly strong...is there any way to disentangle (even roughly) how much box office the Barbenheimer phenomenon added to Oppenheimer on the OW? Probably could sort of piece it together.
  13. The comparable screening that comes to mind for me is The Batman's Tuesday shows
  14. Yeah I mean, the original has an 8.0 on IMDb and won 6 Oscars. This one is probably going to get a 90%+ on Rotten Tomatoes and seems like a lock for another 8.0+ on IMDb. It stars two of the biggest stars on the planet. With a great director. A known, bestselling novel. And we haven't had a $50m opener since...October. People are ready and eager to go to a great movie again. Think those 3 things (high quality, big stars, eager marketplace) will be very fertile ground for a Batman Begins -> TDK type jump.
  15. Glad I saw this, I for some reason thought the Sunday shows didn't go on sale until Friday. Booked 2 tickets, my closest IMAX is already about 70% sold out.
