The negative stuff on Titanic was before the movie was shown to anyone. That's not the case with Coppola's movie. The biggest studios in the western world saw the movie on a giant IMAX screen and they don't think the movie is good enough to invest their money into a market & distribution budget.

Oppenheimer has a 3.99856 multiplier. It needs $120,000 for a 4.00 multiplier. Universal should go find $120,000 somewhere like Paramount found $2 million in Puerto Rico for Transformers 2. Lol

Definitely not the case. Pretty big respect to give so many nominations to his films. A lot of great movies through the years don’t even get nominated in major categories.

It was poorly done, not just by the Producers but by Pacino as well. The whole "my eyes see Oppenheimer" with a question mark tone in his voice. Very weird. Nobody was sure if he was joking or what. Compare this with older days. Harrison Ford in 1994: "The Oscar for Best Picture of 1993 goes to...Schindler's List" and he says it with full authority.

That's true, but I think they will give James Cameron the Best Director trophy on his final Avatar movie. He will have spent around 30 years on the Avatar projects, so I think they will want to reward him for having such a big impact with those movies. The other one I could see is Greta Gerwig with her final Barbie movie. Let's say she does a very strong trilogy and everyone knows she is finished with Barbie after 3 movies. I could see them jumping on board to give her a trophy for that.

I really like The King's Speech and don't mind it winning Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Script. I probably would have given Best Supporting Actor to Geoffrey Rush and Best Supporting Actress to Helena Bonham Carter. All three of the main actors in that film were awesome. I probably would have given Best Director to David Fincher over Tom Hooper, who made some bad choices with the camera that distracted from the GREAT performances by his actors. It's a weird thing. He did a great job getting the strong performances from the actors, but then he chose to use really distracting camera angles that didn't do justice to the movie or the actors IMHO. David Fincher always delivers top notch stuff with his movies, both in terms of visuals and the acting performances. Biggest problem with the 2010-2011 awards season was Chris Nolan getting left off the Best Director list after what he did with Inception. Straight up outrageous. At that point it felt like they were going out of their way to say "fuck you" to him for no good reason, especially after the snubs on The Dark Knight and The Prestige.

I'm gonna be seeing TDK, Inception, Interstellar, and Dunkirk at my local Regal in April and May. But I wish they would bring Oppenheimer back to that theater. Oppy is currently playing at some AMC screens in shady locations near me. Not sure I want to take the risk of getting my car vandalized or something if I go there. Lol

I suspect the Barbie fans won't forget Poor Things sweeping those technical categories. As a Batman fan, I still haven't forgotten Slumdog Millionaire sweeping a bunch of technical categories it should not have won against TDK (Cinematography in particular).

Sounds about right, but I think it’s pretty close overall for the #2 spot between Poor Things, Zone of Interest, American Fiction, and Anatomy of a Fall. Very strong Top 5 movies in the running this year.

Tenet, Inception, and his Batman movies all have James Bond elements in them. I hope he will stay away from franchise material.

Imagine being a kid born in 1970 and growing up on legendary movies like Jaws, Close Encounters, Indiana Jones, and ET. Forty years later, you are handed a Best Director trophy by Spielberg. That’s gotta be the most incredible feeling for Nolan.

Just found out Regal is playing TDK on April 11, Interstellar on April 18, Inception on April 25, and Dunkirk on May 9 in Regal’s PLF format (RPX). Bought tickets for all of them and looking forward to it!
