That’s the problem with the Disney moves of the last 15 years. They should have been blocked from grabbing Star Wars & 20th Century Fox. Those were nuclear moves against the other studios. If the other studios are now blocked from doing similar consolidation, they should sue to have Disney broken into pieces.
There’s a lot of compatibility for Comcast & Warner. Lego Movie franchise is a great example. The Harry Potter rides at Universal theme parks. A bunch of Universal movies on HBO for many years. The Nolan connection. They would probably need to spin off CNN in some way to keep one of the major news networks from being in the same company as NBC News.
I don’t see how regulators can allow Disney to buy PIXAR, Marvel, Star Wars, and 20th Century Fox…but then shutdown everyone else in the industry from doing similar consolidation moves.
Last Voyage of The Demeter. I saw that one in a theater. Not a bad flick. Pretty gruesome version of Dracula. Apparently they only spent $45 million on the production budget, which ain't bad. It had pretty strong production values. Meanwhile we have Killers of The Flower Moon at $200 million and I'm sitting there wondering where the money went, lol
Scorsese has never been huge at the box office. Some good results in the 2000’s and 2010’s with DiCaprio. But arguably his most popular movie, Goodfellas, was 26th at the worldwide box office in 1990. Kind of says it all right there. He made a lot of great movies, but no crazy box office performances.
The longer projects drag out, the more expensive they are in the end. Took them 6-7 years to make the movie, including a couple of years with COVID issues. The budget bloat adds up in these situations.
Except Spielberg doesn’t need a $200M budget for this type of movie. That said, Apple wants prestige from working with Scorsese & DiCaprio. If Apple gets a Best Picture Oscar from this project, they will be pretty dang happy regardless of the financial situation.
Nuclear weapons are a universal issue. Dunkirk is not exactly an accessible story outside of Britain. Don’t forget inflation, which helps every new movie compared to stuff from years ago.
Nothing wrong with it. It's similar to the Mission Impossible movie. The only "problem" is the huge budget of the movie. But setting that aside, the number seems pretty good for Killers IMHO.
That's true, the money is chump change for Apple. But I'm asking where the money went in terms of the production. With a James Bond movie for instance, you can SEE the money on the screen. Nolan just put out a 3 hour drama movie with a bunch of big name actors and it was $100M instead of $200M. Where did Marty spend the money? Lol
Honestly the preview number seems pretty good considering the content of the movie. I don’t understand the $200M budget. That seems pretty insane for a drama movie.
Yeah, that is annoying. I think Nolan has the right idea that the director’s cut should be shown in theaters. If people are willing to drive to a movie theater to see your movie, it should be the real version of the movie.
