If this hadn't been posted yet, Silver Linings Playbook earned a PTA of 1.5K yesterday.

The only musicals I can recall that had strong legs are Chicago, Mamma Mia, and Hairspray. Still, the strong WOM and lack of competition in January (most of the new relases will be R) might help it to make over $150M DOM.I hope it can make over $150M but $100M+ is already locked.
Les Miserables 3:05pm - 100% full (sold out at least 1 hour in advance) I Bought my tickets on Friday to get good seats!Trailers:Oz the Great and Powerful - little chatterThe Great Gatsby - see aboveIdentity Theft - lots of laughsWow is what I can say! Hugh Jackman stole the show!!! One of the biggest surprises of the year. I absolutely give this an A. Everybody please go see it. The audience clapped after it was over about how excellent the movie was. A group of people behind me cheered on when they saw Russell Crowe's name. It sold out at 11:40, 3:05, and 6:35 (The last time I saw a movie sold out was Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2) and the last time I saw a theater this crowded was when Magic Mike and Ted came out. Other sell outs:The Guilt Trip: 12:45 3:00Jack Reacher: 3:15This is 40: 3:30Django Unchained: 2:45 6:10Parental Guidiance: 2:00 4:30
So far so good for Jack Reacher as in the box office mojo article, it was close to Knight and Day's international openingHowever, Les Mis did phenomenal overseas. I can't see it doing less than $150M. I'm predicting $200M overseas.
Wednesday's top movies: #1 THE HOBBIT - $6.3M ($106M), #2 THE GUILT TRIP - $1M ($1M), #3 LINCOLN - $850k ($110M)
Small drop for Lincoln, which is still doing very well.
Here are Early Wednesday numbers. Do take them with a grain of salt.http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/box-office-zero-dark-thirty-405696If a new thread is needed for it, someone can start a new one for Wednesday numbers.
Tuesday's top movies: #1 THE HOBBIT - $7.8M ($100M), #2 LINCOLN - $925k ($109M), #3 SKYFALL - $875k ($273M) "The Hobbit should've had a bigger increase but it can still cross $40M in its 2nd weekend. Lincoln and Skyfall continue to do well.
Here are Thursday numbers: (Someone can split it in another thread or combine it).http://www.boxoffice...aily/2012-12-14Lincoln had a strong increase as the Golden Globes benefitted it.
Thanks, Spaghetti. I want to learn more about box office. One of my family members think I should teach a class over box office but that would be too complicated.
Even though there are movies like Lincoln and Silver Linings Playbook that have strong PTA averages in later weekends, how come studios do not expand more? Is it because they want until Golden Globes nominations (on the 13th) come out?I ask because Lincoln and SLP didn't expand last weekend. I know Disney/DreamWorks is trying really hard to book Lincoln so if it doesn't get expanded tomorrow, I don't want to hear any complaining. Here's proof:
http://www.huffingto... ... 36611.htmlIt's already a success but I believe some theater owners need to get rid holdovers that aren't doing well and replace them with Lincoln since it has potential to cross $200M (slim chance but not impossible)
