  1. I love how people are refusing to observe recent box office history in the franchise and just ride the hype. I think it will over-achieve if it hits $85 million for the three day and touch $100 million for the four day returns. If it doesn't even hit $100 million in four days I would not be the least bit surprised. A buddy of mine just got back from seeing it and said there were maybe 15 people in the theater. I don't doubt it's a very good movie. Most X-Men related movies have been. I just don't think it's going to suddenly become the "must-see" movie this weekend because a bunch of comic fans have their panties in a wad over Singer returning. The general public has it's own perception and recent history has shown that even when the films are made very well, the public at large do not turn out in droves. I see this being no different.

I dunno if the 10am friday showings are a good indicator of weekend results

  2. And I think some people just don't Thursday because, well, its Thursday. Friday night is American movie night. That's when you go do your dinner and movie. Thursday just doesn't have the same feel, even in summer. I never go on Thursday, no matter what movie it is. I can wait an extra 24 hours, I'll be sleep a 1/3 of those hours anyway so its no big deal.

That, and what you said about work and school is the issues. Friday and Saturday are just easier, and it's just tradition. Date night on Thursday? Tha fuckk?

the crowd atmosphere at thursday night / midnight premiers is the real reason to go at that time.

  3. Woah, am I the only one noticing LEGO had a 13% increase over its first Tuesday? That's damn impressive. Another sub 30% drop this weekend seems extremely likely.

Looks like it. No competition this coming weekend or the next, not til peabody (3/7).

  4. With the clear broadened audience it has had through the second half of its run, I wouldn't be surprised if Frozen dips a bit more than your average family film on Superbowl Sunday. The last time I saw it the audience was mostly college students.

I mean of course it probably won't be as harsh as stuff like TAM, RA, or TLS but probably more than Nut Job. If this number holds up though it might actually be enough to compensate though.

demographic might sway back towards families this weekend with the sing-along version.
