  1. She will be allowed to 'retire' gracefully. But there is no defending her record as head of Lucasfilm. She'll be out soon but it doesn't do anyone any good to make it an ugly split.
  2. I'm recovering from surgery...on pain killers...and bored to tears. So I'm watching Revenge of the Sith. I watched a preview showing of Rise of Skywalker before going under the knife. What strikes me the most about the comparison is how colorful Sith is compared to Rise. Now granted it dips into cartoon territory more often than not but at least it's more visually interesting that Rise (which was waaaaay too bland and gray to me).
  3. Saw it Thursday night was bored throughout. One thing that jumped out to me was how tight the framing was in the space battle sequences. Kept making me think it was being displayed in the wrong aspect ratio. I thought Rogue One did a better job of making the battles make sense.
  4. I'd really like to see them adapt the recent Jason Aaron run. That would be bonkers. I really enjoyed them. Ultimately I just think Marvel needs to embrace the 'these movies could be any genre' mantra. So far it's mostly been lipservice with some VERY slight toe dipping in those waters. Doctor Strange as more of a horror movie would be incredible. Fantastic Four fits the current profile (assuming they can solve the Reed Richards problem) but could certainly lean into Sci-fi a bit more.
  5. I'd have to think it resets a bit. I just don't see the remaining characters having the same impact on audiences. And yes I realize Ironman wasn't exactly an A lister when this all started... Captain Marvel is such a blank slate. Black Panther deserved a better movie. Maybe he gets one. Spider man will likely revert back to Sony...I think they're building their hubris back up again with the minor success they enjoyed with Venom and won't renew the deal with Disney. And I'm not sure Marvel is really ready to embrace the weirdness that would make Doctor Strange really stand out.
  6. I joined the forum because of Avengers 1's run. Can't say I've learned much since then despite all the knowledge on display here but it's definitely fun to see all the pretty numbers go up and up!
  7. Not as good as I had hoped. In fact easily the worst of the MCU films if the 2008 Hulk film doesn't count. I realize they were trying to avoid the pitfalls of a by the numbers origin story but I believe this film would of greatly benefited from a more traditional narrative structure. I'm familiar with the source material and I still think the beginning of the film throws you into a murky deep end that just isn't all that fun. Amnesia stories can be tricky but this film gave me whiplash by lurching between a 'overly convoluted' and a 'this happens, then this happens, followed by this happens' plot with little viable connective tissue. Captain Marvel ends up being a bit of a blank slate. As another 'We'll try anything to not be another origin story' casualty moments that defined her personality (and I would have enjoyed seeing fleshed out more) are only shown in awkward flash backs. And it's frustrating because in my opinion it blunts the 'dont let anyone tell you what you can or can't achieve in life' message I wish my five year old daughter was old enough to see. The action sequences are not very well done and don't utilize her powers in a creative way. The soundtrack is full of catchy tunes but they aren't as well integrated as in the GotG films. It suffers a bit from prequel -itis by providing hamfisted origins for little details from the previous films in a way I didn't find satisfying and in my opinion they waste a old school Marvel villian due to an ill advised rebranding. I'm a little worried that Captain Marvel is expected to lead the way for later films in the series but hopefully they can integrate her more effectively into the main cast going forward. After all the MCU is definitely a bit of a sausage party right now... In closing.... don't go see Captain Marvel. Worst Marvel movie BY FAR. Just awful. Best left for a Sunday morning with a hangover via Netflix while trapped under something heavy with only the remote within reach.
  8. I think she'll resign rather than be fired. She had a good career...Why put up with all this crap? But don't take 'crap' the wrong way...I think criticizing her is totally justified. LF does not appear to be a tightly run ship.
  9. Saw Solo. I was bored throughout. Bland and uninspired. My rankings: A New Hope Empire Strikes Back Return of the Jedi The Force Awakens Rogue One Revenge of the Sith Solo Attack of the Clones The Phantom Menace The Last Jedi Or in picture form:
  10. I'm sure she's relieved that you finally find her attractive. LoL. Personally I first thought she was pretty hot in The Debt.
  11. Rian put $#-+ instead of chocolate in our Star Wars peanut butter. I'll never understand why people would want this. Star Wars has previously been about well defined good succeeding (if only eventually at times) over well defined evil. I deal with enough shades of gray in real life. Please leave my escapism alone. You can try to teach a lesson in a SW film but it's never going to be anything more than a space opera. Rian basically made an anti-war Star Wars film. F him sideways. I hated the new BSG because it was often Mayberry in space. Present day issues in a Sci-fi wrapper. This is lazy and not clever. But for some reason people like this. But then again my one co-worker that LOVED BSG was lazy and not clever. Hmm..... Times are trying. Life is tough. American doesn't want a deconstructed Star Wars anymore than they want a deconstructed Superman. It definitely affected the BO. Why would anyone want to go to the movies to be $#-+ on for two plus hours? Especially when it teaches 'lessons' in a hamfisted way at the expense of a proper narrative. Even in Empire you get the thrilling escape from Hoth against all odds and the Falcon outsmarting the Imperial fleet for awhile until their luck finally catches up to them. Things end on a downer but that doesn't define the whole film. TFA was a rehash but at least it was FUN.
  12. I didn't like TLJ. I wouldn't mind if it didn't make another dollar but obviously it will. It obviously made money for Disney but I honestly believe they feel like they left hundreds of millions on the table due to the mixed WoM. I think Solo will open much lower (I don't base this on any box office knowledge so excuse me if this is a no $#-+ Sherlock comment) because fool me once etc. Hopefully it will be a better movie and have good legs. But honestly while I wouldn't mind having another good movie in a franchise I normally enjoy I wouldn't mind a flop either because SOMETHING has to get Disney to put more effort into these movies. Their output so far has been very lazy IMO. A rehash of New Hope....a troubled RO production....TLJ with its paint by numbers plot and anti-Star Wars approach...and another troubled production with Solo. Episode 9 seems their closest opportunity to course correct. I want to see TLJ end up below TA DOM as I genuinely loved TA (saw it four times in the theater which is a lot for me). Hopefully Disney doesn't Puerto Rico it. And please no more Rian Johnson. I haven't seen enough of his other work to form a useful opinion on his overall talent but he seems poorly suited for Star Wars.
  13. I wouldn't be surprised if Disney announced the new trilogy as a show of support for a film they had internal concerns about. But who knows. They will course correct after Solo. If Rian can't come up with something more upbeat creative differences will be cited. They didn't buy Lucasfilm to be profitable. They want all the moneys. I just wish they would slow down and Improve the writing. Issues with cannon aside I think TLJ was a paint by numbers story that other than nonsensical twists wasn't as original as people suggest (Too many Empire and RotJ callbacks). And despite all the broken dishes doesn't open up the universe all that much IMO.
