I don't think Paramount had much to do with the actual making of the film, they just have some residual rights because o ftheir contract with Lucasfilms, which carried over to Disney.

Paramount gave Disney the film rights to Indiana Jones some years ago. Paramount gets some financial considerations for every Indiana Jones movie that Disney makes. It has never been reported what those financial considerations are. However, Paramount has had nothing to do with the making of this film. This is solely a Disney film.

Don't worry about it, it's difficult to survive through negativity.

It was almost like it was an advanced tactic to overinflate projections of the opening weekend so that when it came in at $135m mentally you already think A2 is in a bad spot.

The most similair movie to A2 box office wise will be the first Avatar, I don't know why that's so hard for people to see.

It's a sequel? Well not really is it. There's a big difference between a sequel to a 13yo movie that has been out of the spotlight intentionally, and the fifth movie from the same franchise in one year and #35 of the total franchise.

It's very possible that the only day that Avatar 1 is above A2 in dailies from now is today and tomorrow because of New Years Eve + New Years Day. A2 can simply from now just make more than A1 every single day until the end of it's run.

People will tell you that's impossible, why? Because they refuse to see

This is true. This will not play like a sequel. The same way that Top:Gun Maverick did not play as a sequel. The gap between films is too long. That does not mean that Avatar 2 will out-gross Spider-Man: No Way Home, but it also does not mean that it won’t. It does mean that Rogue One was never a good comparison.

This movie’s run will start to become more clear after this 3rd weekend, which was always going to be the case. Then we’ll see how leggy this movie will be. If strong legs do develop, it will be fun to go back and read a lot of the early negative comments again.

  3. And so it begins. The BO for this movie is setting up perfectly for a long leggy run. The only question is how leggy the run will be.

However, despite following box office closer than most, the consensus here seems to be that the movie is already disappointing at the BO (from the posts I have read). This movie can notvdisappoint at this stage. You need 2 to 3 weeks worth of data before you can predict if the movie is disappointing.

My gut reaction is the Avatar fans and the Cameron faithful are going to have some fun in a few weeks. How much fun is yet to be determined.

  4. The goal for this movie domestically should be a gross that is greater than Spider-man: No Way Home. This movie will not open close to Spider-Man, but this is really a movie that is about the legs. Titanic and Avatar were both leggy movies. I think Avatar 2 will also have a leggy run. Consequently, I am not worried about the OW.

A domestic gross greater than Spider-Man: No Way Home should be the goal.

  5. Disney is getting ready to begin a year long celebration as it approaches 100 years of magic in October 2023. Should be an exciting weekend with great movie news. I have all the trolls here on ignore, so this should be a positive and fun thread to check in on. Looking forward to checking in here from time to time to see the reactions.

Except they don't make money on 5, and they would make money on a licensing deal for the other 4.

In order to get the Indiana Jones film rights from Paramount, Disney agreed to give Paramount some type of profit participation on any future Indiana Jones movies that Disney makes. The amount of the participation is undisclosed, so no one can say whether it would be more or less than what Paramount would make by licensing the first 4 films to a 3rd party streaming service. However, Paramount does make some money from Indiana Jones 5.

  7. It’s the same discussion that has been going on here for the past 10 years since The Avengers was such a huge success. “I do not like the MCU because of X reasons, thus it’s successful run is finally over.” Yet, the box office results are still outstanding overall. Keep up with the doom and gloom though because you will be right one of these years. . . it just will not be this year and it definitely will not start with this movie.

I see you are trying to say Disney should have not taken a stand about basic human rights because you don't agree with that political point. Why don't you go full mask off and say that LGBTQ+ individuals are not deserving of respect and rights instead of dancing around the point.

This is purely about politics and that is all. The bill does not say anything that deprives anyone of basic human rights. Any statement otherwise is gaslighting, like calling the bill the “don’t say gay” bill when the word “gay” does not appear in the bill.

I personally give respect to everyone, except some of the trolls here (not talking about you), so I am not going to attack people because you asked me to. That does not mean that I am going to pretend that this bill is something that it is not or that Disney should not have waded into the waters of a political debate about child education. Unless Disney wants to re-brand itself, which it does not.

Edit: I want to add that no argument is taking place. I am merely expressing my opinion. I once got into a back and forth with a poster named The Chad who was like threatening me physically (like most internet tough guys) and DeeCee came along to give me 2 warning points. I asked why since I did not resort to profanity or threats of violence, and the other guy did. I was told that the reason was that an argument took place. So I am making it clear that I am not arguing.

  9. This is the very definition of a self-inflicted wound. It all could have been avoided if Disney did not over-react from calls to get involved from people who did not have Disney’s best interests in mind. I am sure the people at Universal feel the same way as Disney does about the law. yet no one put any pressure on Universal to say a word, and they sure have not volunteered to join Disney either.

If Disney had just remained quiet for an extra week, this whole thing would have blown over, and people would have moved on.

If the rednecks in Florida are willing to hurt their economy just to "Own the libs" they are stupidier then even I thought.

They will not hurt their economy. They will merely put Universal and any future competitors on an even playing field with Disney. Disney will lose the advantage that allowed them to open Disney-MGM Studios before Universal could open their first theme park.

If you think Disney can afford to move Walt Disney World to another state, then you are over-estimating the company’s financial might. They cannot afford to move.
