  1. I still have hope they wait until Monday for reviews to avoid the Rogue One media focus. This week was totally focused on Rogue One so if you expect good reviews, they would be forgotten. On the other hand, if you expect bad reviews, they can also be missed by some people (like for Passengers).
  2. That's the part the most weird ? What were they thinking ? I know you can do counter programming but this isn't counter programming enough to work. And there is plenty of other (and probably better) counter programming in the holidays with all the awards movies, Sing or even Assassin's Creed (which still might get good reviews).
  3. Passengers is taking hard hits from critics and doesn't seem good at all. Will Pratt and Lawrence be sufficient ? I think that if Assassin's Creed get good reviews (or mixed to good which is likely IMO), there's a chance AC beats Passengers. Of course, both should have released further from Star Wars IMO.
  4. The IGN review just say it's such a big part of the movie that you can't talk about it without saying it. It's apparently also not really a twist ('except it was hidden by marketing) but something that happens at the beginning
  5. Don't forget Assassin's Creed too. It hits this same style of blockbusters with stars and a normally good director but in a movie with kind of doubt and bad marketing around it. But it has the advantage to not be a space movie against Rogue One at least. Sing has the advantage of family films and since Rogue One looks like a Star Wars "less for children", it'll probably be the one succeding the most (after Rogue One of course). Passengers and Assassin's Creed will probably be quite close to each other IMO.
  6. Always seemed weird to me too (and doesn't happen only with movies). Some people just want to see some things sucks and fails and I can't even fathom why. Isn't it always better to have a good movie ? Even if it's not your style, other people will like it. Yeah Sony is really bad with marketing and this movie was very weirdly marketed (even more than Ghostbusters). Also still think that release date is a big mistake, everyone will be focused on Rogue One and the movie won't be able to breathe.
  7. So any news of when this trailer will drop ? If they want it with Rogue One, it's now or never.
  8. I think other movies already did it. May 17th is also probably the release of the movie in France, they are released the Wednesday here. So that's basically premiere the day of release, kind of weird in a way. Any word on when the trailer will be released ? Should be soon now right ?
  9. With Alien Covenant moving out of early August, Valerian should grab the early August release date (the GOTG one). It would make it further away from Dunkirk because I don't think it's a good idea to go toe to toe with Nolan. Was also pretty successfull for GOTG which could be seen as one of the most similar recent films.
  10. Disney wants probably all the trailers with Rogue One to be theirs, they have quite a lot of movies to promote there. Sony might have a spot for Spider-Man but all the rest should be Disney. I guess it will be with FB considering the the online release date. Envoyé de mon ONEPLUS A3003 en utilisant Tapatalk
  11. There's still a full year so it's quite a lot of time for the VFX. Also they were already pretty cool in the footage shown from what I gather from the reports. It can fit in this schedule. Though I do think it needs a new date because opening against Dunkirk will be too hard. I personally am more excited by Valerian but a Nolan war movie will be big and they shouldn't go agianst that much competition (though if they do, it's a big trust sign in their product). Dunkirk would particularly be big in Europe and especially France which is somewhere where Besson movies are genrally a big success so they might want to avoid being penalized there. There are quite a lot of other dates available for them in Summer 2017 that are better than this. Only one week later and they have Jumanji instead of Dunkirk as their main competitor and that's totally a different story and August is pretty empty apart from Alien Covenant. If they can, they might even go in June though that's quite full already.
  12. Btw, still no leak of this footage ? I'm hyped to see it now. Totally forgot about the movie since its announcement but I am a huge fan of The 5th Element so pretty pumped for that. I'm always down for any space movie and even more for an original one. I mean even with all its defects, I still liked Jupiter Ascending for that. Yeah if that's a way to be able to finance some stuff like Valerian, do Taken 15 if you want, Luc !
  13. We're getting Pacific Rim 2 and Warcraft 2 thanks to them so yeah I'm very glad too. Well if the movies are successfull, people are enjoying them. Even if you don't, what's the problem for you? Lol it's not horrible at all. Some American reviews are terrible, many of them are mixed-good or even positive. And foreign critics are even better (though always on the mixed-good side).
  14. Well this movie has sufficiently star power to take a "October leader" position IMHO. Inferno and The Girl on the Train are the only big movies there (and that's not that huge) and they are at the beginning and end of the month so mid-October is pretty free. Problem is Inferno is Sony's movie too so they might avoid the competition. But they could go in front of The Girl on The Train (or like a week later) and win I think. Still a better date than against Star Wars. Yeah I can definitively see that especially because attaching the trailer to Ghostbusters would be quite useless as the movie will probably flop. Apocalypse or Civil War are both great to attach the trailer.
  15. With smells and everything ? I only ever saw D-box with moving seats. I don't think this will catch on. That could be great for VR movies though (if this catches on). Also, I suppose it's most used for action movies. But the things happening in those movies would be pretty unconfortable to experience "for real". Do you have to smell the sweat of the always running and fighting characters, the explosions heat and wind ? Seems a chore really especially for an extra 8$ on top of 3D. Really ? So we'll have like 30$ cinemas tickets soon ? Terrible idea
  16. Disney obviously knew it. The timing of the announcements doesn't make it look like that though. Fox and/or Cameron should have stopped talking about December 2017 release target before (they probably know it since quite some time, they see how the pre-production advances, they probably knew it before Disney knew it and then made its decision). They had plenty of time to announce it before. Now it definitively looks like they're fleeing from Star Wars (not that it would matter in the end). They could at least have wait a few weeks/months after the news to make it look like unrelated, the next day make it totally in reaction to Star Wars. Bad PR from Fox there !
  17. Well a better story and characters with a slightly different setting with the underwater could help it a lot. I hope there is that, Cameron didn't work that much for nothing, he's not a dumb guy. And you say that like 500M domestic is bad... And the WW score will probably still be huge.
  18. He actually is that slow sadly. Though he writes 1000-pages books, not do a 2-hour movie. It's definitively is let's be honest. Disney wouldn't go there without knowing Avatar was "delayed". But the way it was announced will definitely make people think Avatar flinched. They should have tell before the SW date change, it wouldn't be ready by 2017. It would have looked better for them he didn't post since some time there (well I didn't see him on the last few pages I didn't read all the thread). Didn't he post like every 2 minutes here normally ? This 512 pages thread is probably half of his posts.
  19. Obviously SW vs Avatar. But yeah, both of those would have been great. Well we can still hope for an Episode IX vs Avatar 3 (or still 2 in 2019 ?) which will never happen.
  20. 1) Star Wars Rogue One 2) Deadpool 3) Warcraft 4) Captain America Civil War 5) Suicide Squad 6) Independence Day Resurgence 7) Star Trek Beyond 8) Batman v Superman : Dawn of Justice 9) X-Men Apocalypse 10) Finding Dory
  21. So they definitively hiding a lot of stuff and there are scenes to justify the IMAX. Basically they showed us only a teaser there containing only a small part of the movie. Can we be sure of IMDB information though ? Never understood how this site worked, who updates it ?
  22. It has been officially released. It's on Youtube and many sites and have been posted on this thread earlier.
  23. This whole TFA thing was just a distraction. Oh JJ, you beautiful bastard ! For money... Yeah if it's all a bunker-movie, I can't see why it would be IMAX, I know they want more money but come on, they have to have something to justify an IMAX ticket.
  24. Disney marketing will make the GA care, be sure of that. Also they arguably put the most interesting of all their spin-off projects first so that helps
  25. It wasn't bad really (though worst than the first one I agree). But more important, it wasn't the same type of event than Avengers 1. The same will happen with Episode VIII, it won't be the same event, the return/rebirth of the SW franchise, it will just be the sequel and as often with ultra hits, the sequels will decrease. It will still be massive but not do the same type of numbers. Especially if it stays in May.
