It's because he's the only one who can oppose Disney. He's the one who makes his own films and they make more money than Disney shill products. He makes amazing films with big heart that make the most money.

wish this american social politics just stayed away from cinema and FAR FAR away from Jim, it's a load of nonsense

Wasn't that the whole concept of Avatar?

Personally I'm comparing CM's run to The Hunger Games because of the similar release dates and opening weekend. The Wonder Woman comparison doesn't work. CM is doing great in North America but it was never going to get WW style legs and it never needed too. CM is doing unbelievable numbers overseas but it seems like fans had too high expectations in North America. I was never comfortable with those Black Panther comparisons.

Hunger Games had very good late legs - starting from 4th weekend onward, it had only one drop above 40% (48% during it's 7th w-e)  until its 23rd weekend (44%).

Considering that CM is 16M$ above HG at the same point, still grossing more on a daily basis (5,2M vs 4,5M) and that HG finished at 408M$, what do you expect CM will finish at?   I see it with a 415M$ finish myself.

Just use Outline to get rid of the paywall. Copy and paste the link on the Outline and it'll unlock the page.

    The full review:

    • Jordan Peele's 'Us' is a politically impeccable allegory - but it's no 'Get Out'.
    • There is such a thing as zombie careerism and I pray, after seeing Us, that Jordan Peele has not succumbed to it.
    • After the triumph of Get Out - that widely feted and genuinely fabulous exercise in sociopolitically literate Grand Guignol - Peele has shown worrying signs that he believes those reviewers who, while lauding the film, did much lordy-lordy-ing about its supposed genre confusions.
    • Now Peele gives us something close to a zombie movie homaging zombie cinema.
    • The zombie reviewers have seen the Peele future and it works.
    • It's amazing how, in retrospect, Get Out seemed pure Jordan Peele, for all its own invocations.

I'm not very familiar with how reviews are written, but is this typical?   It barely talks about the movie and is mostly focusing on external stuff.

  4. Definitely holds up upon a second viewing.

The only complaints I could have about the movie are the lack of stakes.  You  know the main characters (Marvel, Fury, Coulson) are not going to die because it's a prequel and when she finally learns all her power, she basically becomes superman and the only threat to her are what her enemies can do to the people she cares about.

Talos is great and I like the seeds they planted to get the Skrulls to become the vilains in the future.

For those following the "race" to 400M$ combined between Avatar and Frozen, here's the current status:

    - Avatar - 394M$ - 3M$ in the last 11 months

    - Frozen - 374M$ - 16M$ in the last 11 months

The race is over and the winner is....

    Avatar  - 400M$

    Frozen - 397M$

Expect Frozen to pass Avatar by the end of the year.

    Lads, they're comics.

The only meaningful way they can be written is to be character driven. And it ends there.

If you inject politics in comics, it's going to be watered down politics. If you inject social commentary, it's going to be watered down social commentary, and it goes on. Whether Moore is completely right or not, he makes a valid point: If you take your morals from comic books, they're gonna be watered down morals.

I'm telling you all this as a person who loves comics and still reads them at 29.

Well, that's hardly difficult to imagine. I mean, when the box office for their first 6 movies is pushing 5 billion, with only two well-liked installments, it says a lot about the brand's power. They still have a lot of work to do, to get in a position where unknown characters can make bank (a la Ant-Man;  none of the current movies have used unknown characters - maybe characters that weren't taken seriously, such as Aquaman, but he was very recognizable), but the potential is there for anyone to see.

Definitely looking forward to see how the DCEU will unfold and what they are gonna do with Batman and Superman.  I'm still cheering for Batflek and Cavill to come back.

The numbers posted their weekly home video sales data. They run around 2 months in arrears but the latest data for Nov 25th is interesting because it's the first week of the Xmas sales where there is a huge spike.

    Some interesting takes..

Deadpool2 is tops, selling double IW, even though they were released in the same week (nearly).

Black Panther is not in the top 30.

Wonder Woman is # 8 and topped IW even after 65 weeks in the chart.

This is the Thanksgiving / Black Friday week.  It really depends on BF specials.  Look at the previous week to get a better picture of what is trending.

There's tons of great fantasy material that could have been or could still be adapted.

Narnia was certainly worthy of better but stuff like Eragon was junk to begin with while a fine book series like Susan Coopers The Dark Is Rising was turned into garbage to jump on the fantasy bandwagon and LeGuin's great Earthsea was murdered on TV.

A shame.  There so much great material out there from LeGuin, McKillip, Gavriel Kay, Pratchett, Miéville, Williams, Zelazny et al

The Dispossessed by Ursula K. LeGuin is my favorite book ever.  I make a point to read it once a year.

  12. I'm still to this day a very big fan of BvS but I have been very disappointed by JL.  I'm in the minority that prefers Snyder style to Whedon and having these two directors try to mesh JL into  a cohesive movie was painful to watch.

I would cut 1 minute of BvS and be happy with it all (the way Superman says Martha, not the sentence, just the delivery  ---  Batman saying to Martha he's a friend of Superman, minutes after trying to kill him)
