45-48 would still be huge.

Later tonight we're all going to get Chris Brown'ed by that XMEN number.
Don't let it love you.
-
Do NOT want to put too much stock in that number but that would be AMAZING for XMEN.
The extrapolation on AMWTDITW is bonkers.

Man I reallllly called Maleficent wrong. I think I said 45 OW in the Summer Game. Just thought the visuals looked subpar and the audience seemed too focused. Another lesson in why I should never underestimate Disney.

Sources tell BoxOffice that MALEFICENT is on track for $80M+ this weekend. #Maleficent #AMillionWaystoDieInTheWest http://fb.me/6xKSrXGGM

What scenes did you enjoy the most? Any memorable lines?
Thought the opening was effing brilliant. The battle scenes with the sentinels were just so well done. And it made the film feel like it opened with a huge reunion. Also loved the scene where young Charles and Magneto get heated in the plane and Magneto is slowly crushing it while they're inside. Loved Xavier's bit about 'just because someone stumbles and loses faith doesn't mean they're lost forever.'
you?

I see. Yes, she might have escaped knowing her uncanny ability. And I also agree, the technology for the Sentinels program wasn't ready yet. I just wonder though, do you happen to know the timeline of these events? I mean the years when they occurred?
No I don't. Which also makes things a bit tricky.
-
Yeah that was pretty much a loophole. But it could be explained away by assuming that
Mystique escaped sometime after she was caught and that during the original trilogy, Trask Industries were not ready with the adaptable Sentinels.
This is probably the best explanation I can think of as well.
It was very possible to me that Mystique escaped, I was just having issues with the fact that the sentinels were not in the original trilogy. But you're right, we could at least assume the technology wasn't ready, even though I think this is a bit weak. It at least works though.
-
They didn't get much of her blood. They just got a tiny drop from the pavement where she got shot. TRASK may have stopped operating after Trask got arrested. And even if it continued, I assume the Sentinels program wouldn't have pushed through.
But that was only AFTER they went back. BEFORE they went back, it was told that she was captured. This would have been the past up until the point at the beginning of this film when they go back in time to rewrite everything. The DNA they collected from her leg would (bullet) would have been the new storyline, so that part makes sense. The part you're saying now. My question is if the whole point of the movie is that they have to go back to rewrite Mystique killing Trask, wouldn't she have been absent from the originally trilogy? Or at the very least wouldn't the sentinels existed then?

Very good number for X-Men:DOFP. Would love to see it hit 100 but either way a big success, close to doubling First Class OW. Having seen the film, I think if you are a fan of the trilogy and First Class there is no way you can leave disappointed. Really, really well done. The only thing I DIDN'T understand was this, hopefully someone can help me out:
Okay, I understood the time lines and how things were rewritten etc. My only question is, IF Mystique was originally captured and her blood harvested for the sentinels, wouldn't or shouldn't Trask Industries have existed in the original trilogy? Or shouldn't Mystique have still been captured etc? That was the only part of the storyline I couldn't make sense of.
Some unfortunate holds, namely Godzilla. But still a success on all fronts. Solid hold for ASM2 in the face of X-Men. That drop solidifies a total in the 210-215 range.
-
So, Cap 2, Spidey 2 (haha), X-Men: DOFP...what's the best?
I'm in the minority but I would go...
X-Men: DOFP A-. Spidey 2 B+. Cap 2 B.

BoxOffice @BoxOffice 21s
Sources tell BoxOffice that X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is currently pacing for a $38-40 million opening day.... http://fb.me/6PEYiCLNT
Really hope it cracks 40. If so 100 3-day is almost certain.
-
I think that's pretty fantastic. Most of my friends (who are fans of the series) wouldn't go because it didn't start until 10PM. Not trying to overgeneralize, but I'm sure that wasn't just my friend group that had that line of thinking.
Would love to see it be the first film of the year to hit 40 OD.

Yeah, my mind is already on Wed., my bad. It should increase then being Tuesday. Mix up on my part.
Haha. honestly after you started saying that I had to triple check that today's numbers were for Tuesday.
-
I don't recall those being heralded as impressive. They were more in line with typical increases for a family movie on Discount Tuesday.
Then how would staying flat or slightly dropping on a Tuesday be considered one?
-
So a $1.4m number for TASM2 is almost staying flat. That's about the best good news for this film I've noticed since it opened.
Puts it just over $175m domestic now.
Best/Worst case scenario for it over Memorial Day weekend?
Best=$9m
Worst=$6m
It increased 20% on its first Tuesday and 28% on its second. Staying flat would not be good or the best news since its opened.
1.4 would really make no sense at this point so I don't know about that number, even coming from Rth.
-
Estimates were pretty much spot on this weekend.

-
All signs pointed to at minimum a 50% drop for TASM2.
Have you been following along this whole time and still were hoping against logic for a 48% drop?!
Fascinating.
If all signs pointed to a potential 50% and i wanted 48% that 2% is hope.

Kind of funny to see Nikki being the one reporting numbers sub 75 for the weekend. She's always overshooting. Maybe she's on downers tonight instead of uppers.

Regardless of whether this opens to 80 or 100 this is a HUGE success for Godzilla. This could have been such a disaster in the wrong hands and put Legendary out of business.
Really hoping that 60% drop for ASM2 isn't right or else 200 is going to be an uphill battle. Was hoping for a 48% drop :/.

During the first reveal scene at my showing this guy two rows down slowly stood up, pointed and yelled 'OH SHIT'.
Everyone clapped.
- 7
-
Oh. My. Godzilla.
Deserves every penny. Probably the most fun I've had at the movies since the Avengers. People were clapping and yelling throughout at all of the battle scenes. I LOVED the slow burn, buildup of the reveal of the monsters.

Thur is probably going to be down another 10% so $1.8m. It would have to jump 200% on Friday and have a 4 multiplier for $21.6m
If it follows your prediction (which I think is probably right around where it lands Thursday) it will be at 155.2 domestic (needing 19.8 not 21.6)
Friday = 5.05 (180% increase like last week, think it could be a little bigger this week)
Saturday = 7.76 (54% increase like last week)
Sunday = 5.05 (35% drop like last week)
Weekend = 17.86 (weekend drop of 49.7%)
That puts it at 173.06. Hoping it can squeak out around at 48% drop since its holds should start stabilizing and that should put it right on the money.

Hoping for best case scenario that ASM2 is around 175 after this weekend.
Official Weekend Estimates: Maleficent - 70M, X-Men - 32.6M, A Million Ways - 17.1M, Godzilla - 12.2M

There will be a new opener that wins, but it is called The Fault in Our Stars. I'm telling you, 50 OW is happening.
