  1. I have just seen all possible scenarios and there is a 2.8205% this record is beaten in the next century.
  2. Guys, I'm drinking right now so maybe you shouldn't mind me too much but I just had a crazy thought. What if this performance single-handedly grabs Christopher Nolan's attention and convinces him to make an anime movie? We could have a Nolan-directed Cowboy Bebop movie. Or Akira???
  3. Jokes aside, the JP gross for this will realistically be near Tenet's WW gross... think about that for a moment ..
  4. $500M ( just Japan ), nice and round number to put it as the biggest release of 2020 ( worldwide )
  5. What's the next big release in Japan that could theoretically "hurt" DS? What is the potential final gross we are looking at here, considering it might further break all the rules set for its genre due to lack of competition? Imagine this opening followed by Your Name legs .
  6. Even without great legs, a good chunk of these people rushing to see the movie will also buy it on dvd/blu-ray. When all is said and done, this will easily be the most profitable movie of 2020.
  7. Yes, with current market conditions, but Japan's population has started decreasing and streaming is getting bigger, those are my main concerns when stating nothing will ever beat DS.
  8. Yesterday I stated this will be the OW record in Japan for decades to come. I take that back, this record will never be topped. This is the absolute max a movie can do in Japan in its OW atm and it's downhill from here. History in the making this weekend.
  9. "filmgoers will also receive an adorable special coloring in sheet drawn by manga creator Koyoharu Gotouge. This is one top of the already announced 84-page booklet that features the story of Rengoku's first mission as a Demon Slayer that will be given out to everyone who sees Mugen Train. While the sheets given out at screenings are limited to 2.5 million people, the images were released on the official website, letting anyone download them to color in at home!" When they decided for that figure of 2.5 million drawings for the audience, I wonder if anyone thought they will be gone/mostly gone by the end of the opening weekend.
  10. This is a different case compared to other anime flicks because the movie's story is not a spin-off like 99% are, but a true continuation of where the anime left off last year. It will be frontloaded for sure, but it being 100% canon will play a part in its run.
  11. DS in Japan > The Invisible Man WW? lol maybe i'm getting a bit carried away here
  12. Crazy thinking that an anime movie like Demon Slayer has a real shot at being in the top 10 worldwide in 2020 with just Japan's gross.
  13. Well, this trailer is making the movie look a lot better than the teaser. Still looks pretty bad though.
  14. TOHO Cinemas' website had a queue of 200.000 people trying to book a ticket the other day Other cinema chains' websites were simply overwhelmed. Let that sink in for a moment.
  15. So far I've been having a weird relationship with this movie. By any means, I should be extremely excited for this movie, but I keep forgetting it exists. I am casually remembering its existence sometimes and I become a little boy on christmas morning, but the next day I forget it exists. I'm really in need of a teaser or something.
  16. Yeah, the anime was definitely very well received, I'm just using manga sales in comparison to huge names like One Piece because that's the best metric at hand to judge how popular Demon Slayer is and how it could potentially translate into $100M in Japan with its movie.
  17. But you probably know what One Piece is and how huge that is. Now multiply that by 5 times, that's how big Kimetsu no Yaiba is in Japan right now. For a very long time, One Piece was the best selling manga in Japan with a record of 37 million copies sold in 2011. This year, in just the first 6 months, Demon Slayer sold over 45 million copies. Properties like Naruto and Dragon Ball have sold 250-300 million copies to date, that means Demon Slayer is reaching a third of those sales in just a single year.
  18. Demon Slayer will comfortably beat the OW record. EDIT: and if it doesn't, blame it on COVID.
