  1. actuals tomorrow but Pets2 us reported with 355k, Spidey 310k.
  2. In other news, Austria's June numbers are official and it's been the worst ever (no surprise since it was also the hottest June ever) - 2nd quarter is still up from 2017 thanks to the strong April but 1st and 2nd quarter combined make for the worst half-year in recent history (but we're only 1% down from the horrible 2018 numbers so strangely there's still hope we won't see the worst year ever!)

Next weekend: Danny Boyle's Yesterday will probably be the biggest opener but there's little doubt that Spidey and the Pets will stay on top, Yesterday will probably come in 3rd.
  4. Sunday must have been strong (sure was rainy here); Spidey up again and Pets2 with a massive increase ...
  5. shows how dependent German (and Austrian) BO is on weather ...
  6. First wekend estimates: #1: Spidey - 475k incl. previews, excellent! #2: Pets2 - 200k (flat, also good - holidays seem to help) #3: Annabelle3 - 110k
  7. anything close to 400k would be a huge success considering the weather I'd say

In Austria, similar numbers. Next weekend: While weather continues its summery run (a little cooler, hopefully!), the overall weekend should be a lot stronger thanks to attractive non-family openers: Spider-Man Far From Home and Annabelle3 plus some small but interesting releases. SMFFH will win the weekend, maybe it can get 250k or even 300k admissions which would already be a success against this weather. The horror release should at least top 100k.
  9. what I really don't understand is why theaters aren't able to cash in on their climatized rooms in the afternoon and early evening ... I mean, it's too hot even for beergardens or any outdoor "activities" except swimming.
  10. well, Pets2 will indeed win the weekend but first estimates from insidekino.de have it at 250k ... that's awfully low considering this already includes last weekend's previews. Aladdin is 2nd with 60k (-58%), 3rd place Five Feet Apart with 45k (also a drop >50%)

Avengers Endgame finally crossed the 5mil total mark! Next weekend: With Pets 2 there's a potential blockbuster - the first one reached 3,8mil admissions total; while it's far from a safe bet that the sequel will cross 3mil, it should at least have a decent opening (>400k admissions would already be big considering the weather).
  12. as mentioned, Austria's weekend was a bit better, 30% up for Aladdin, and MiB and JW3 were basically flat.
  13. I was speaking from the Austrian POV, here the weekend should be somewhat better than Germany. But the heat is coming here, too - as you said, weekdays will be virtually dead.
  14. weather definitely worse than last weekend, let's hope for a strong Sunday
  15. Weather is not much different from last weekend I'd say but it's a kind of long weekend (Thu a holiday in many regions and Austria) which does help a lot.
  16. Early weekend estimates from insidekino.de: Aladdin stays on top with 150k admissions (increase!!!), best opener Five Feet Apart with 125k; overall good holds.
  17. well, after the opening, 6mil seemed possible, so a bit underwhelming in that respect but still excellent result, btw, in Austria Endgame has already crossed 600k total, so it does better here than in Germany, and accordingly, Austrias May numbers are not too shabby - still far from satisfying but better than 2018 and 2017. (we had a really nasty May here, nearly three weeks of rain and cold ...)

I also expected a bit more from The Dead Don't Die … Next weekend: Three releases that might be positive surprises - Long Shot, Brightburn and Tolkien - but none of them with real hit potential; Aladdin might spend a 5th weekend on the throne. Also opening: Au bout des doigts, a french feel-good movie that might catch on - no big opener for sure but could have excellent legs. And there are quite a few previews for Pets2 which might hurt other family stuff a bit.
  19. 7/10, B+ - okay in most of its SF aspects but I didn't like the handling of the Skrulls at all ... the Skrull/Kree war was a pivotal point in the space-centered Marvel comics; you shouldn't throw all those possibilities out of the window by removing the Skrulls as a threat. Also, the transition from ruthless hunter to whiny refugee was not only hyperfast but actually grating.
  20. it had a phenomenal start; while it's been dropping steeply ever since it has surpassed everybody's expectations, one of the very few exceptions in a year of disappointments.
  21. last year there were a few weekends where I shortened the weekend chart because it didn't even take 10k admissions to make it into the Top10 - really sad for a rich country with about 80mil inhabitants. Looks as if I'll have to do it again this year.
  22. horrible first estimates from insidekino.de: #1: Aladdin - 105k #2: MiB - slightly below that number #3: JW3 - 60k and there I was thinking that 150k was a sensible prediction ... that's practically a flop.
  23. MiB look HORRIBLE at my theater ... biggest screen and only 20 tickets sold - hope it does better elsewhere
