Hello y'all. Hope you guys had a good Thanksgiving week. I just wanted to share something that I produced and it was directed by our very own Jay Hollywood. A short 3 minute horror film.
After waking from a nightmare, artist Scarlet is pursued by a malevolent figure eerily reminiscent of her latest drawing.
If you can give it a watch (share, comment, like, etc.) and give it a grade on letterboxd, it would be greatly appreciated! I think the short film turned out excellent and I am very proud of it!

I don't think anyone doesn't think Marvel can have an up curve out of a trough. The issue is how they do that whilst continuing with the MCU in its current form. Doctor Who just regenerates, Star Trek did this too as did Batman.
How do you reboot a universe whilst maintaining the universe?
Try to set up a Ultimate Marvel Cinematic Universe

Yeah, no, the studio is not going to shut down for a decade.
Okay then using other properties that were able to take breaks maybe isn't the best comparison then?

I'm pretty sure people say the same about The Marvels.
Although it isn't a sure thing, the lack of interest in a character could be noticed. That's why people have so little expectatives in Captain America 4.
People said the same about the first GOTG.

I got you. I am Still very much Pro Sag but yeah if this gets voted down then the AMPTP is going to say F all of you. Eat yourself from within for all we care.
That's not how it works. AMPTP can't just say fuck it cause their productions will be shot down.
What will happen is likely a week to a month more before a new negotiating committee meets with the AMPTP and they try to figure out a new deal that CAN pass.

I would point out that all franchises go through this period of downturn. It happened to Star Trek, it happened to Batman and it happened to Doctor Who so Marvel Studios' downturn isn't unusual. The dumbest thing to do would be to fire everyone, cancel everything or close down Marvel Studios, the correct thing to do which is likely happening now is reevaluate and make changes.

They all took a break to get out of their funk.
Doctor Who had a 16 year break.
Star Trek sorta had a 4 year break (between ending of Enterprise and the Star Trek reboot movie) but 7 year break between the final TNG movie and the reboot movie.
There was an 8 year break between Batman & Robin and Batman Begins.

I don’t see MCU fans clamoring this. It’s probably gonna flop too.
I would wait for a trailer? I don't see how you can say something has hype or not before the marketing begins.

And Disney is in quite a bit of debt themselves.
Almost every company is in debt. Especially movie studios. Just because you have debt doesn't mean jack shit.

Hollywood needs to learn from the video game industry, projects get cancelled all the time there even for games which are near complete. It's better to not release shit than to damage future products by releasing shit. Bah bah bah think of the people who worked on the movies, well perhaps they shouldn't have made a bad movie if they didn't want it to be shitcanned.
Video games are a very different product and they release bad video games all the time. Like ALL the time. Just look at Gollum or most Square Enix products. Nobody sets out to make a shitty movie.
But hey we do have some users here who do set out to shit post. And that's how we get shit takes like "hollywood needs to learn from a completely different industry".

I don't think you can make any such broad predictions five years out.
Yes 2020 crashed but 2021 did better than 2020 so yes cannastop was wrong.

SAG leadership has been significantly more inflamatory about the CEOs than the WGA so I don't see this going fast at all, but I hope I'm wrong.
I mean SAG leadership is made up of actors, no? Actors are known for being a tad dramatic compared to writers

I think people were hopeful SAG’s strike would get resolved with a carbon copy of the WGA’s deal, but we’re seeing a lot of indications it won’t be that easy.
It was never going to be that easy. But MAYBE it does show AMPTP is more willing to actually listen to what SAG is asking for and why now which would lead the road to a good deal for SAG.

Yeah I kinda wouldn't be surprised if SAG is maybe a bit pissed at the WGA right now because in a way they absolutely screwed over SAG's potential residual scheme.
WGA revealed what they asked for in percentages from the start, what AMPTP offered, and AMPTP met them in the middle. That's how a compromise works and probably what the WGA expected to actually get from the start. WGA was never asking what SAG was largely because they knew they could never get it. Maybe SAG can.

In terms of Sheridan, it’s a relatively open secret that he had his assistants and coordinators help out with the writing (not credited of course).Sheridan knows it's a team sport. Some people call him power hungry. But he's a good man.
Oh wait this isn't a Babylon 5 post.

So the studios will share streaming numbers with WGA under an NDA...Meaning unless studios report it publicly, we won't know them.
But writers can share it amongst themselves. So at least within the industry it will be very public secret.

So do these terms apply to current shows or just future ones?
Some apply to new seasons, some are immediate, some based on the date. Depends on the term.

how long is that going to be on disney+? Over/under 8 weeks?

I think it’s most definitely a generational thing. The primary teen/twenties audience that streaming really goes after are very much using it as a “second screen” from my experience, except when the writing is compelling enough to really grab their attention away from the phone. They won’t just do that for anything by any stretch though. The phone is always gonna be the default for a good chunk of that audience.
Shouldn't the goal then of any service be to provide compelling enough content to take their attention away from their phone?

That’s just it though… that’s only the case when the writers are allowed/it’s conducive for them to do top tier work on TV. I can’t tell you the number of people I know who have admitted to essentially watching the MCU shows as “background noise” with the exception of WandaVision (and maybe Loki).
Usually I'll only background noise a show with no real plot between episodes (like Cold Case) or one I've already seen and am pretty familiar with (so I can pay attention during my favorite bits). Even with Cold Case, if it's my first watch, it'll be more primary screen than not unless it's bad. I'm bad at multitasking lol.

(posted here because of the context of the article being AI in the Arts)
"TV as background noise" has always been a joke of sorts with a grain of truth to it, but sakes alive let's not actually make it a real thing to base how to make shows.
They are also very dumb because they don't realize how often they actually are the primary screen.

In the end, we are indeed looking at the least attended summer #1 by a long shot if Barbie doesn’t get the legs well past 450 (obviously not counting you know what years).
A 2020 summer movie got to $450 million?

how did the universal marketing team manage to turn Oppeneimer into a plf event capable of outgrossing Avatar 2's ow dom imax gross by 4 million?
They had a countdown on the trailer that actually counted down as time passed.
(I also think even though not everyone did the double screening, Barbiehammer ensured both movies had super high awareness which obviously led to more interest).

My first introduction to Margot Robbie was on the ABC flop series Pan Am. ABC spent $10 million on the pilot which was a lot of money at the time. Kinda crazy following her career since then tbh. I feel like I've followed her since she came to Hollywood from the start.

Imagine if tickets went back to costing 5$ for an adult. I honestly believe attendance would rise.
I remember AMC had like a cheap movie day a year or so ago and the theater was the most packed I've seen it until like this weekend lol. I think the theaters would love that. But the studios are too greedy.
