  1. No he didn't say that. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL What he actually said was that the biggest anti-war film statement any film can make is to show the impact it has on the families back home and the veterans who return there. Unless you honestly think Clint Eastwood thinks that American Sniper is the only film in history to look at that then really you are the one who really needs to shut his mouth. Because you are clearly frothing at the mouth over nothing at this point in time.
  2. I've thought about it a bit over the past couple of days and I have decided that its not a particularly great film. The editing between home and Iraq is a little bit choppy. It has obvious 'hollywoody' type elements like the phone calls home during sniping or even the rival sniper himself. Ultimately however it just seemed rather bland and safe. Probably helps explain why this movie has hit such BO numbers. One change to the movie that would have instantly made the film better to me would had been if he had more or less instantly killed the child as soon as he picked up the Rocket Launcher. I think it would had shown a nice progression between when we first saw him as a sniper in Iraq where he waited till the last possible moment to kill women/children, to the battle hardened more 'psychopathic' person that war has made him become. Much like Han shooting first, I think this change would have helped made his character much more interesting to me. But interesting is not how you make 400M+ I guess.
  3. I realise that Lisa and I wasn't implying that anyone watches a film without any preconceived biases. What I attempting to say was that this movie seems to show us what a persons preconceived biases are, rather than expose any particular political leanings of AS. I think its also important to note that good criticism of art also requires reflective thinking about what biases you have that makes you feel the way that you do. This film makes no statement on the Iraq War. It does not label all Iraqi's as evil. Obviously its anti-war 'kick' comes from only one side. Of course there is no comment on American atrocities. None of that has anything to do with what this film is actually about which is a character study on an American soldier who fights in that war. It would be like if a movie was made of a character study a german soldier around the battlefield in World War 2 and then getting upset that it doesn't portray the suffering of the Jews. That kind of thing just has no place in the film's mission statement and I feel it is ridiculous to expect it to address those concerns.
  4. Because he was the director. I noticed after I posted that Baumer made the same reference damn it.
  5. No it doesnt. The movie shows Kyle and a few other soilders holding these views. It doesnt try to justify it or say they were right in that thinking. Merely that this was their view. Honestly if you are someone who sees this movie as an 'Iraq apology movie' OR as a 'Kyle is a flawless hero movie', that reflects much more on your particular poltical leanings than on any actual politics found in the movie imo.
  6. I guess we needed to show Kyle pissing on iraqi children he had randomly shot to satisfy your bloodlust against America hey Lisa?
  7. I'm not even sure how anyone could class this movie as pro-war? Can someone explain that one to me? The way I see it this movie is more about a character study about a fictionalised version of a real life dude then a movie that is making any grand claims about war one way or the other. Indeed if anything I would class this movie as anti-war given how we see the war strain Kyle's relationships at home, and strain his mental health. Throw in the reactions of his bro and the other veterans he runs across while back at home and the message I take from it is that if you go to War it will affect you negatively even if you do come home in one piece. That is hardly a pro-war point of view as far as I see it. So how in the fuck is this pro-war?
  8. Talking aggressively asking questions is hardly torture.
  9. Did I miss a torture scene in this movie? How in the fuck does AS justify torture when the Americans don't use torture in the film???
  10. Lol. Django Unchained is to slavery as porn is to making love with your significant other.
  11. Big Hero 6 was the best super hero movie of the year
  12. Lost's Pilot is pretty much the best 80 minutes of TV that has ever been aired. It's just a shame that the show wrote cheques that it couldn't cash.
  13. I think if I had made a list Wall-E would had been my number 1. The second half of that film is pretty standard 2000's pixar stuff. Which isn't a knock on it at all, as Pixar could do no wrong at that stage in history.....But it's first half before they reach the ship is just an absolute master class in how to use film to tell a visual story. A masterclass. I do not have enough good words to say about that flick.
  14. If Denzel Washington keeps getting thrown 15-20 Million at movies that you feel 'flop', then there really are two possibilities here. 1) Hollywood is full of morons who keep giving out large sums of money to Denzel despite his lacklustre BO performance. 2) His movies actually are profitable and they like the cash they bring in. Choose 1 option.
  15. Bay would make enjoyable movies to me if he managed to keep the runtime of his movoes under 100 minutes. His style just overstays its welcome in these 2.5 hour 'epic' movies he insists in doing.
  16. Very interesting and looking forward to reaf more.
  17. I'm a huge Arnold fan, gave his come back piece 'The Last Stand' an 8/10. Sabotage was closer to a 3/10 I wouldn't wish that movie personally on anyone. Even if you don't watch it for this series, give it a watch. I'ld be fascinated to see if you could actually like it.
  18. Why Arnold, why would you deliver us this shit pickle.
