  4. After having a bit of a hiatus in 2022, I am back to present some favorites you've likely already heard enough about of 2023. I'll be keeping this quick, and hope to have this all wrapped up within the day! I will reveal my top 10 films with a brief writing to sum up my thoughts on the film. Before I do that, I'll also reveal my five runner ups (all films that had potential to crack into my top 10, and maybe would have on a different day) and fiver honorable mentions. I'll also reveal movies that were not in that the top 20 tier, but had some element about them that I thought was worth viewing (ie. they'd be making my BOFFY ballot if I submitted it today). For some perspective, I ended up watching around 60 films from this year as of today. Without further ado, I'll begin with the films that did not make the list but had some element worth noting!
  5. It's nomination time yet again for the twelfth iteration of the BOFFYs! The categories and voting will be the same as last year. Send your ballots via dm to BOTH me and @Ezen Baklattan to ensure they do not get missed. I will reserve a post below to tally your FYCs. I'll try to keep it up to date so there is a running list of everything that is posted as a FYC throughout the thread (at least for the main categories). Also, please rank your choices. While every choice you make counts as a vote, the rankings will work as tiebreakers (which do happen for many categories). If there are any dilemmas on category eligibility, please bring it up early so we can vote to make a quick decision before ballots start coming in. In terms of votes, they will be counted where you vote for them for the acting caegories (so if somebody votes Julianne Moore in Lead and somebody in supporting, she will have one vote in each) but if there's a dilemma we'll try to create a recommendation of where something should be placed. For things like screenplay or original song, if you vote for something which is ineligible (ie. the song isn't original or you vote for Killers of the Flower Moon in original screenplay), it's a null vote, so make sure to categorize things correctly. Have fun! The categories we are asking nominations for: (rank up to 10 choices) BEST PICTURE (rank up to 6 choices) BEST DIRECTOR BEST ENSEMBLE BEST ACTOR BEST ACTRESS BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS BEST VOICE PERFORMANCE BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY BEST ANIMATED FEATURE BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY BEST EDITING BEST VISUAL EFFECTS BEST COSTUME DESIGN BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN BEST HAIR AND MAKEUP DESIGN BEST SOUND DESIGN BEST ORIGINAL SCORE BEST SOUNDTRACK BEST ORIGINAL SONG BEST STUNT ENSEMBLE MOST EPIC BOX OFFICE RUN MOST SOUL CRUSHING BOX OFFICE RUN BEST COMEDY FEATURE BEST HORROR FEATURE BEST INTERNATIONAL FEATURE BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE BEST TV SHOW/MINISERIES – COMEDY BEST TV SHOW/MINISERIES - DRAMA (rank up to 10 choices) WORST FEATURE BEST BREAKTHROUGH (filmmaker, actor, writer, etc.) BEST YOUTH PERFORMANCE (any actor under 20 y/o when film was shot) BEST OVERLOOKED FEATURE (Film without “serious” awards consideration and made under 25m at the Box Office DOM) BEST HERO BEST VILLAIN BEST SCENE FUNNIEST USER MOST VALUABLE USER BEST FORUM MOMENT
  6. The problem with the boys in the boat is they don’t let the boys be sexy like Timmy Chalamet in Wonka or Zac Efron in the Iron Claw.
  7. I wasn’t calling them right wing propaganda movies?? i was being snarky that the only hit this year I am not happy about is SOF.
  8. Really nice OD for Wonka. I wasn’t that interested in the project, but at this rate I’m happy for any (non right wing propaganda) movie that manages to be a hit.
  9. Yeah, I think if it fails I wouldn’t really blame it on nostalgia bait fatigue. Probably just general lack of interest. But it seems like it should turn into a modest size hit if it opens to 30m or so this weekend
  10. I think as a premise, Wonka feels like it’s part of the nostalgia franchising trend that people are getting tired of. Pretty impressive that it’s getting favorable reviews despite this, as I reckon people enter the movie not overly excited about it.
  11. As the academy is anti-cool, I assume this will not win Animated Feature because it’s 100x cooler than Spider-Verse 2
  12. Glad to see The Boy and the Heron win the weekend. A beautiful triumph of a movie.
  13. Satan point blank shot every UN Ambassador and rose to be Deputy General at the film’s end. The ending also outright claims that Satan now has control of the world money supply as he also gains control of the World Bank, meanwhile the Christian resistants fly over NYC dropping leaflets proclaiming the truth about Jesus Christ. Satan is also a Romanian and Jesus is white Jesus. (I am not making this nonsense up)
  14. I think Dune 2, KFP4, and GvK2 are all stronger potentials than Creed III, Scream VI, JW4, and DND were. Obviously, Mario was its own level of success that likely isn't reached by any of those three.
