  2. So I assume theory of everything will kick out American Sniper, and Guardians gets an adapted screenplay nod. Birdman and Selma kick out Foxcatcher and Nightcrawler
  3. How can liking Boyhood be a hipster when it's an Oscar frontrunner, critics love it, and the vast majority of the audience that have seen it love it? Wouldn't it make you the hipster for disliking it?
  4. If the budget is similar to into the woods or les mis (both should be more expensive than Mormon though), then it could make profit just from the US
  5. I'd say near locks for the year 1.Fifty Shades of Grey 2.Cinderella 3.Insurgent 4.Furious 7 5.Age of Ultron 6.Pitch Perfect 2 7.Tomorrowland 8.Jurassic World 9.Inside Out 10.Ted 2 11.Minions 12.Ant-Man 13.The Jungle Book 14.Spectre 15.Mockingjay Part 2 16.The Good Dinosaur 17.The Force Awakens 18.Mission Impossible V Highly Likely 19.Get Hard 20.Terminator: Genisys 21.The Fantastic Four 22.The Scorch Trials 23.Hotel Transylvania 2 24.Saint James Place 25.The Peanuts Movie 26.Seth Rogen Christmas Comedy 27.Joy Good Possibility 28.T3ken 29.The Wedding Ringer 30.SpongeBob: Sponge Out of Water 31.In The Heart of the Sea 32.Spy 33.Paper Towns 34.Magic Mike XXL 35.Trainwreck 36.Pan 37.Pixels 38.The Walk 39.Crimson Peak 40.Alvin and the Chipmunks 4 Unlikely but Possible Break Outs 41.Blackhat 42.Mortdecai 43.Jupiter Ascending 44.Kingsman: The Secret Service 45.Focus 46.Chappie 47.Home 48.Mad Max: Fury Road 49.San Andreas 50.Entourage 51.Gallows 52.Poltergeist 53.Grimsby 54.Point Break 55.Ricki and the Flash 56.Straight Outta Compton 57.Man From UNCLE 58.Everest 59.London Has Fallen 60.Jem and the Holograms 61.Scouts vs. Zombies 62.Friday the 13th 63.The Martian 64.Midnight Special 65.Sisters
  6. Home, San Andreas, and Terminator are nowhere near guarantees. The former two will be pushing for 75-80m
  7. There's a certain point where different opinions can come down to taste, but bashing the Beatles isn't just bad taste, it's ignorant.
  8. Yeah, I actually saw the play a couple of times before I eventually read the book. It's a good story, the film did a decent enough job, but I do think they tried to hard to make it view more as the next YA thing than actually doing an adaption of the story.
  9. Personally, I still laughed my ass off on a repeat viewing on my own at 12 am when I was exhausted. It is undoubtedly funnier with a group of people (as all comedies are) but if you can't get a group to watch it with you then you are doing yourself a disservice by not watching it.
  10. I guess Ethan should just stay far away from folk music then. (Or real folk music, and not the hipster rock bands like Mumford and Sons that think they're folk)
  11. As a music major working towards a PhD in Music Therapy, I can say the two of them were effective, engaging, and stylistically correct. A viking singing a personal folk song when caught up in a recent storm of emotions isn't going sound like Bing Crosby, but it doesn't make it bad.
  12. Minus the song? Wut. I mean you're young, you might not get it, but that song is literally what made httyd2 great.
  13. LEGO, Noah, and Godzilla are all great to good films. Haven't seen the Babadook, but I've heard a lot of good about it, but need to see it before I judge. It's weird hearing complaints about cleverness or intellectual depth in films being negatives. I liked the Giver but it wasn't a good adaption of the novel/play. Other than those I like your list.
  14. Yeah TITE was hilarious, it made my top 10 lastyear
  15. until the dialog mentioned it. Also, couldn't the witch just I think the main reason people are having an issue with the last act may be that we have seen so many better fairy tale deconstructions in the past decade. Marshall's direction did suck, but ITW in its original story is one of the best fairy tale deconstructions out there.
  16. I don't understand people's problem with the last act of ITW. In the Broadway show it absolutely makes the play, turning it from a fun fairy tale romp to a very meaningful allegory. The movie didn't fully capture it as well as it should have (it glossed over some of the darker parts and even skipped a few to get the pg rating), but it was still fairly emotional and got the main points across. Into the Woods is not Into the Woods without the decent into darkness, and it really seems like a lot of people who just saw the movie completely missed the point of that act and thus the show. The act is properly foreshadowed and although I still think it should have a had a stronger punch (which wasn't possible with a pg rating), it's the part of the movie that actually makes it mean something and it turns the fairy tale characters into real people. I also think they executed that last number very well, it was truthful, broken, yet also hopeful.
  17. ITW actually edged out Unbroken last weekend after actuals.
  18. I remember a year or so ago they were talking about a film adaption, and there's been nothing since then. I'd feel like it would be best to strike when the iron is still fairly hot, but then again there seems to be trouble getting Broadway on screen (not the other way around though, sadly) Book of Mormon (Despite being controversial) would be a massive film hit.
  19. That doesn't exist, you're imagining things again.
  20. I really like about all of your picks so far with the exception of Hugo (only enjoyed it for the ending) and The Great Gatsby (I hated it, but I am a big fan of the novel.)
