  1. Oh, I'm talking domestic US, however once it gains awards traction it should pull decent overseas numbers. MLK is one of the most prominent American figures so a good movie about him should be a big domestic pull.
  2. It was a big hit, but Selma has every reason to be bigger. And I'm not just saying that because I despised the Butler for everything it was. (In fact I had first doubts about Selma because David Oyelowo and Oprah put a sour taste in my mouth after that)
  3. Selma is an actual awards contender, it doesn't look hamfisted, it's about MLK which is much more iconic than The Butler, it's a much better movie (well I haven't seen it but I'm assuming anything with a 100% and 9/10 average after 65 reviews would have to be better than the piece of trash movie called The Butler)
  4. The film is riddled with some very strong performances and it keeps your attention the entire way through, although the emotional bits do seem rather robotic in a way (not how they are delivered) but that you don't necessarily get a large emotional reaction out of them. It's very interesting to watch, but it's definitely one of those movie's that once you see it you never really need to see it again. It did a great job at exploring its themes delicately without beating you over the head with them however still making them quite glaringly obvious. Tywin Lannister plays Tywin Lannister in this movie (I just felt like pointing that out). It's really overall very well crafted but not necessarily overly resonant. B+

  7. With the exception of the Favreau bag, I actually complete agree with you on this film. (However I found the last act very weak and it brought it down to a B for me). Not going to make my top 50 but I do think Iron Man 3 is horrible underrated.
  8. In the world that Boyhood is the best reviewed movie of all time? Better reviews than Citizen Kane.
  9. Tell me what you think of your teenage self in 10 years then get back to me on that. Some teenagers are smarter than others but they're still teenagers.
  10. Big Eyes Into the Woods Imitation Game Wild Top Five
  11. I feel like the series captures the heart of the books (from what I've read so far) and keeps up the pace. Just like LOTR or Harry Potter you can't expect it to follow the books exactly because what works when you read doesn't necessarily work on screen.
  12. You're what 14? Of course barely anybody your age watches it (or admits they do), and those that do haven't cognitively developed enough to actually understand what makes it so great (because at that age all any guy cares about in film are boobs and explosions, which fits your friends description). Don't trust your tween peers opinions on anything, all 12-18ish year olds are idiots. (No offense you'll grow out of it one day like everybody else who was a 12-18 year old)
  13. If you hate Game of Thrones you fit into one (or more) of these categories 1.A Wannabe Hipster Who's Lying to Himself 2.A Religious Fundie who's offended by tits 3.You Haven't Actually Watched GoT
  14. I prefer the TV Show to the books (I've just started delving into them though) but I do love how much more detail is in the books (which is understandable). But I prefer watching to reading.
  15. As much as I love LOTR, everything is white and black and straightforward. Game of Thrones takes the epic scale of LOTR and adds a whole lot of grey, sexier, politics, intelligence, and more gut wrenching emotion. It clearly takes inspiration from LOTR but there's so much intricacy, character layers, and plot interconnection that you don't get in really any other series. Edit: And I am more than happy to see GoT at number 2 behind Breaking Bad (or Teletubbies). Much higher than I expected
  16. Disagree highly, A Song of Ice and Fire (book and movie series) has become one of my favorite pieces of art ever. It's better than LOTR movies and books.

  18. Given that my top 50 of the half decade would pretty much mean around my top 10 for each year (give or take a few from different years), then yeah I'd be heavily applauding all of the movies on my list. I've seen about 100 from each year so that'd be the top 10% of the movies from the last 5 years.
  19. 100m+ OW, you are doubting how strong a pull this will have. Granted it will have terrible legs, but over 200m
  20. Boyhood is also a far stronger movie than either of those.
