Unless Unbroken breaks out critically (and financially), I can't really see anything else winning. Competition is weak this year.

12YAS and Gravity were winning just about every precursor (with the exception of American Hustle's SAG win), it was a two way race (with a potential upset from American Hustle).

I'm excited to makes top 10 for this year, I still have some more films to see though. Plus, I traditionally always make it on the 31st of December

Again dragon 2 increased overseas so I don't see how the point is valid. We are talking about what went wrong domestically.

It's not that Mockingjay is decreasing, it's that it's decreasing by over 100m from a well-received 400m sequel that increased under all the odds. There's no reason for Mockingjay to decrease that much, the lowest predictions were around 140m/360m type range. To claim that the drop is normal and something didn't go wrong is kind of silly.

I don't think WWW should be limited to flops but also movies that vastly underperform expectations. I mean Interstellar and Httyd2 both don't fit that definition and they each had WWW threads.

The problem is something went wrong if we're in for an over 100m franchise drop domestically. People made one for httyd2 and it only dropped about 35m

Yes, but you'd still have been a fool to write off 12YAS at any point of the Best Picture cycle. It was a frontrunner from its release to when it won.

I think my biggest problem is this movie felt like it was 85% exposition, you rarely got to see this revolution they were talking about, and only in two instances did you really see any effects of it. The scenes that were strong, such as The Hanging Tree, didn't tell you that people went and stormed the Capitol, it showed you it taking place, and that's what made it so strong. The only way they could have actually pulled off this part 1 is if they did more to show you everything happening then hear dialogue about what was happening from Hoffman.

I just started watching (5 episodes in) and wow I'm shocked I wasn't watching this sooner, I am hooked right now. Just from the first episode where Bran gets shoved off the tower I realized this series has more balls than anything else in the TV or Film industries right now.

Disney is going to nearly win 2014 (only losing to Fox because they have less movies) with the least amount of films of any of the major studios. If they can keep this up when they have as many tentpoles as 2015 or 2016 I don't see how any studio beats them. I do hope Disney continues to let in at least 1-2 smaller 'awards' films like Saving Mr. Banks or Into the Woods each year with it though.
