  1. I just got back from Fury, I absolutely loved it. The cinematography was engrossing and powerful, the performances were very well done, and it was one of the few war movies that was bold enough to take the heroism aspects out and leave you uncomfortable. The action scenes were very well shot and were thrilling, yet they weren't overdone, thus it kept a high level of suspense. And Steven Price delivered again with his score, he's a spectacular composer and I need to listen to the score again but it's just as good if not better than Gravity's. My only complaint is a scene near the middle of the movie that drags out a bit to long but it's justified. (It was going well at the start, but it got a bit too much about halfway through it. Again I know its purpose, but if I was watching it at home that's a part in the movie where I'd take out my phone while I wait for it to get going again.) However to again be fair it wasn't the entire scene that was the problem, just the second half when the three other soldiers come in, the first half was tense and showed a different important aspect of war that few movies dare touch on. While it wasn't Saving Private Ryan level it definitely got near it. Fury gets an A from me, it may move to an A+ once I give it time to sink in. This is in the running for my favorite movie of the year.

  3. I really, really loved this movie, everything in it was just so damn likeable. Mark Ruffalo gave a fine performance, and the music was fantastic. As somebody who went into the field of music (well kind of, I majored in Music Therapy) I related well to all of the different aspects of the music industry it took on. While the movie wasn't quite as magical as Once was, I don't think it was really striving to be. My big complaint though is it didn't fully strike home in a lot of the areas it could have (they could have gone further into Steinfield's character for example). Also, it's not necessarily new or inventive, it takes a lot of "been there done that" routes and choices, but for what it is it works and makes itself very likeable while doing it. I guess overall this is the sort of movie that simply is 'feel good' and likeable, and it doesn't take any risks where it doesn't have too (so in that way it does feel somewhat tame). The music however is the driving force behind the movie, and it should definitely be up for some Oscar consideration there. Overall though, I personally really loved this movie (even if objectively it's a well-made movie that just has been done before in many different aspects by others). B+ (Nearly an A-)
  4. I don't think Nolan has quite made a masterpiece level movie yet but memento is pretty darn close.
  5. I bet 50 points to two people Mockingjay PT 1 opens under the Hunger Games I bet 50 points Interstellar is #1 OW 2 people 50 points Gone Girl ends its run over 150m DOM 100 points Interstellar, Big Hero 6 and Mockingjay PT 1 all are in the top 5 of 2014 2 people
  6. It's a Wonderful Life and Oz are both all time classics whether you like it or not.
  7. Just like Japan wasn't ready to make Maleficent huge while Frozen was still playing strong?
  8. To be fair Tangled was better than Frozen... But those other tweets have reinvigorated hope.
  9. I had the Book of Life as one of mine as well, that's two screw ups already. The thing that can save me is Interstellar breaking out big time and beating Mockingjay.
  10. I disagree, it's his second worst (Worst being TDKR). On any point, there's no excuse for Prestige to be ranked above It's a Wonderful Life, the Wizard of Oz, or One Flew Over a Cuckoo's Nest.
  11. They are hardly marketing it at all, hard to be hyped for something when it seems so off the radar. Especially compared to CF
  12. 1.Interstellar 2.Big Hero 6 3.Tomorrowland 4.John Wick 5.Whiplash 6.Birdman 7.Inherent Vice 8.The Interview 9.American Sniper 10.Unbroken
  13. I just need TBL to open above The Boxtrolls and leg out above it so I can get my 200 points in the BO Casino.

  15. Now's the point where we start getting mostly populist films that have no place on a top 100 list. (Blade Runner does, and I won't dispute Titanic even though I'm personally not a big fan)
  16. Finding Dory can easily open over 100m. I mean MU opened in the 80s and Monsters Inc is nowhere near as popular with the GA as Nemo.
  17. To be fair Fury was winning before Blank whined, A Matter of Faith was just abnormally close.
