  2. The movie screwed with my brain, what was weird was I saw a large amount of the twists coming thinking, 'this will probably happen,' yet I was still shocked when I saw it unfold and was still engaged trying to piece together the puzzle. I did think the ending dragged a bit and the movie's pacing feels slow yet you are invested throughout. Gone Girl kept me thinking, either about the plot, or the social commentary that went with it. And not to mention the performances were golden, another fantastic addition to Fincher's resume. A-
  3. Kill the Moon was a really good episode, I personally wish there was more time to it though, it felt very rushed. I also wish it had come with more consequence.
  4. Yeah, as long as we get a couple more great movies this year is going to top last year and that's saying something. Thing is, I'm more impressed this year with movies that aren't going to be competing for BP for their own reasons. (Snowpiercer, LEGO, Grand Budapest, Guardians, DotPA, and even Boyhood might have to just be satisfied with a nod)
  5. There's quite a few examples of the rags to riches stories (A lot of them never really emphasize the importance of the mere fact of getting lucky and assistance from others), but I don't respect everyone who has it. There are plenty of people in the Hollywood business who started off fairly small and got large, but when you get big for creating bad content that's not only poor quality but hinders progress in getting past social stereotypes I can't give much respect.
  6. I'd be surprised if Fincher didn't know who Perry was, just like I'm shocked Perry didn't know who Fincher was. Both should know the big names in their field, especially since there's a good chance of the two working together or coming across each other in the academy.
  7. But if Perry didn't know Fincher then he wouldn't have known that. Perry also being an actor should know the reputations of popular directors for his own good.
  8. It'd be like working as a research physicist and not even being familiar with the name of Erik Drexler then. Or being an NFL player who doesn't know Tom Brady. Fincher's been up for quite a few Oscars and made a lot of well known films, he is definitely up there in directors you should know.
  9. It's not that they compete, it's that Fincher is a highly influential director. Any serious director should at least recognize the name.
  10. If you work in a field you should know the big names of your respective field. Obviously you won't know everyone but David Fincher is a very big name
  11. That whole quote read like an insult of it to me. Like he wouldn't want to work with Fincher (not did he know who Fincher was??) and didn't want to do a movie based on a popular book.
  12. So Tyler Perry is finally good in a movie and it's successful, yet he bags on it? Gosh I really don't like Tyler Perry
  13. Yeah, Scarlett Johansson pulled Lucy to an over 40m opening. With a less exciting premise RDJ should be able to pull the Judge to 20m
  14. I should gain 125 points and the rest of mmy October bets are looking like solid wins. I'll bet 50 points at least one movie opens over 22.5m this weekend 2 people I'll bet 50 points The Book of Life opens over the Boxtrolls 2 people 50 points The Book of Life is over the Boxtrolls DOM 50 points Ouija opens over 25m 2 people
  15. Next weekend we have two potential 20m openers. Fury has 30m potential, book of life could pull in the 20s. Ouija could pull a large opening, high twenties to low 30s. John Wick is a potential sleeper hit. Looks like a strong October to me.
  16. This October is looking especially strong, I find that funny after people saying it would be barren.
  17. RDJ will push it over a 20m opening, but it's not getting 30+ with those reviews and boring subject.
  18. Next week will probably end the 30m opener streak. However Fury and Ouiji both have great chances.
  19. Life of Pi is fantastic, I loved the movie and it's one of the few fictional pieces of literature I've been able to enjoy reading within the last few years. It's so hard for me to read anything that isn't just straight up journalism, commentary, etc or such nowadays and I was thoroughly engaged with Life of Pi.
  20. 50m for Gone Girl and around 30m for Annabelle, would this be the biggest weekend in October on record?
  21. For me, Frozen is a perfect Disney film all the way up to Let it Go, after that it's just a fun and inventive animation.
