"The world really needs James Bond right now and he will deliver" - head of Uni's Danish distributor SF Studios
Yeah this is definitely Tenet 2.0. But can they keep on with November without not just the US, but potentially UK too?

So Kajillionaire is released in the US next week "in select theaters" with unofficially announced PVOD after 3 weeks rumbles. Is AMC the only major window-insisting chain that's gonna be showing it then?
Given they're closer to the Tenet-scale of spending and committing to the November date in marketing, I wonder if Tenet-esque incremental delays may be on the table. Not to mention PVOD. They literally had tons of materials printed and marketing spend committed specifically with the November messaging as opposed to WB-style 'only in theaters'
Indeed. Like with Tenet though at this point MGM/Universal won't be making the first move until governments do - unlike in April. Even if they internally decided to move the film there's the pressure now to keep appearances up. Much like when everyone delayed while Tenet stuck to July, similar situation now.
feel like timing this and still having NOVEMBER on there even on the US materials, right after the WW84 move and those Black Widow rumours, says a lot. everyone else (major studio-wise) has abandoned date-specific messaging. This has NOVEMBER not just on the US materials as is the (pre pandemic) norm but everywhere
The entire release has been positioned as a solidarity thing for indoor theaters and giving driveins weeks if not month's worth of head start would defeat that.
Still stupid given it is a safer way to see a film and will likely help boost things (for WB).
It seems it didn't embed properly but the Paramount drive-in which is in LA county is playing it too https://www.paramountdrivein.com/now-playing/index.php?month=9&day=11&year=2020
Missed this, interesting how this was 'announced' now though they aren't allowed to.
this whole deal could work in a potentially interesting way for platform releases. Major chain exclusivity with AMC (since Regal/Cineworld and others aren't on board ATM) could work as a limited release platform in its own right. So if it performs well in the initial two weeks and Universal/Focus don't take the option to PVOD? Expand to the other major chains - Regal, Cinemark etc.
Also UK theatrical date is October 9 (following the London Film Fest *online* screening October 7). Wonder what the PVOD plans here will be.
