  1. I’d be glad if Wingard’s really still attached to the reshoots and not just there for P.R. reasons now while some ghost director takes over. The guy did The Guest & You’re Next, two genre films I really enjoy (very thrilling films I must add). Blair Witch was meh (but was a case of hopelessly trying to be a remake/reboot/sequel) while I’d argue for Death Note to be more problematic in its approach to begin with (with the producers being responsible for past American J-Horror remakes, multiple screenwriters) and less of the blame being on Wingard’s shoulders. So while he’s made some misses in mainstream cinema, his original works are enough to convince me that the man has talent that I’d wanna see translated to Godzilla vs Kong.
  2. In fairness that would be hard to do story-wise..given that Skull Island takes place in the 70's plus his character did get squashed by Kong.
  3. Just wondering, how reliable is this account as a source? Either way, fingers crossed! Edit: interesting tweet..
  4. I dig it! I thought the 2nd one was quite the drop-off from the first so Im pleasantly surprised to see this being presented as as more of a historical action thriller. Looks refreshing to me.
  5. As in scenes seem to have been edited/deleted? Just wondering...any behind-the-scenes stuff/test screening changes you know about this? 🤔
  6. I guess The Great Game as a subtitle seemed pretty vague and not very indicative of a prequel. Also, I hope the thread title gets changed to reflect the current release date.
  7. Probably could have been a homage, but I think it was just some promo art monster thats roughly based on the Earth Eater monster that was in an episode.
  8. I always took it that the Marvel Godzilla was more of an undetermined due to his constant fluctuations in height (effectively removing him from any rankings of mine ) especially how in one issue he dwarfs the Golden Gate Bridge and in another hes not that much taller than the approx. 100-ft. Red Ronin (accdg to official Marvel stats). At least for the HB Godzilla, an official height of 400 feet has been mentioned in an official publication (I always wondered how they wrangled the rights to print info about this).
  9. The fact that hes the tallest Godzilla aside from Godzilla Earth is pretty amazing.
  10. No worries, we're still here. Just a lack of new posts here, thats all. Didnt know about the Japan news though, thanks for bringing it up. Im disappointed, but it is what it is.
  11. ^This. Given that the Godzilla film with the most tickets ever sold in Japan is still King Kong vs Godzilla by far (IIRC), I cant imagine any other Godzilla film doing better than that.
  12. Honestly...the direction in this seemed pretty bland to me as well. Nothing really pops out.
  13. I think its possible. Looks like theres a B.O. ceiling to giant monster movies, but ofc I cant help but wonder what if G14 maintained its $93M OW and delivered in a way the GA majority wouldve wanted. WOM & legs could have been very impressive.
  14. Just came out of this...I didnt really like it. The Thompson-Hemsworth chemistry (though a far cry from Ragnarok) & the comic relief alien sidekick were the only things keeping this afloat. The plotting & story flow just felt really by the numbers with the best shots being in the trailers (not much interesting imagery in this) and a twist that Im pretty sure wont surprise anyone. One particular joke had the whole theater laughing though. C
  15. Do you think the theater itself could have been a factor? I watched KOTM on a different theater after my first watch, and the differences were jarring. On my first watch, even with the scenes set in the night I could still clearly discern the flow of the action & which character/monster was doing what. Other members here also seem to share the sentiment as well. (Ofc others share the sentiment too of not seeing much during the action 😅) In my other screening, the movie as a whole was frustratingly dark. The 3rd act became really underwhelming because of that. Btw Im glad you decided to check KOTM out for yourself!!! Also the fact that your kid enjoyed it!
  16. I think most (if not all) of us here put forth WOM as the main reason for G14's weekend drops. If you look around the fandom as a whole, a good number were already aware of G14's reception among the GA as having the biggest effect on performance, and that awareness can only go up in the wake of KOTM.
  17. If it performs like Skull Island, I think WB/Legendary would be fine with that. (Couple Skull Island's gross with the KOTM grosses of Japan & SE Asian territories and it would look even better) Id also contend that Freddy vs Jason was a dream for an even smaller number of people than GvsK, and that grossed a lot more than the Freddy/Jason individual entries. Would be interesting to see if GvsK would have a similar pull.
  18. Yeah, really hope to see them again soon here as well. I hope that wasnt intentional, but theres no need to sound mean-spirited about some members just because they arent posting here right now. Besides, nothing wrong/delusional with the line of thinking that "Godzilla & even more monsters" would gross more than "just Godzilla." People are free to speculate.
  19. I know the VFX company playing field has become quite even for the past decade, but I wonder if ILM handling the VFX for Kong played a role in a greater confidence/capability to have monster-heavy sequences set in broad daylight?
  20. I dont think GvK is a very comparable situation to that of Annihilation & Mowgli. Even with the downright disappointing BO of KOTM, its still on track for at least $350M...couple that with K:SI's $566M gross and Im sure WB/Legendary are banking on name value to pique audience interest. Given that behind-the-scenes clashes of Annihilation involved conflicts as to making it more GA-friendly & less "complicated"...at least whoevers behind GvK know theyre trying to make a GA-friendly, action-heavy blockbuster with loads of licensing opportunities in the mix. GA appeal is something both WB/Legendary suits would want for something like this. Mowgli had its own issue of figuring out just who its intended audience was, as no matter its quality...BO comparisons to Disney's version would always pop up. Just my two cents.
