  1. So I guess this is the right place to post this?

Colin and Steven had a meeting with Donna Langley and the goal is for Colin to have a very rough script by August.  Colin isn't directing the sequel but he will be very involved just like Spielberg.  And if Spielberg doesn't like the script, the studio won't set the date yet. In other words, this won't be like the Furious films.  We'll be getting a sequel and it's all happening quickly but the cameras won't start rolling until both Donna and Spielberg are happy.

  2. Not unwatchable but not very rewatchable either, IMO.

I honestly appreciated how they tried to mix elements of the first 2 films together, but it's easy to see why some things got lost in the shuffle.

Action isn't very thrilling (but at least it's serviceable) for the most part except in the climax when John Connor lets loose on Arnold. Now that part I liked.

Arnold as expected is great as the Terminator. The rest of the cast except Simmons were pretty much just there.

    6/10 I guess?

With $150-million 'Great Wall,' Legendary aims to bridge U.S.-China film gap

    http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/envelope/cotown/la-et-ct-great-wall-film-legendary-film-20150702-story.html#page=1

More than four years ago, just as China’s movie market was starting to boom, Thomas Tull, the producer behind blockbusters including “The Dark Knight,” “The Hangover,” “Man of Steel” and “300,” was casting about for a concept that might particularly suit Chinese audiences — and travel globally. His fanboy imagination wandered to the Great Wall. What if, he wondered, the iconic edifice was built not to keep out hordes of Mongolians and other human invaders, but to defend against fantastical monsters?

Could turn out into something entertaining.

  4. Some good creature feature movies coming out with decent box office success the last few years. Pacific Rim, Godzilla 2014, Jurassic World, Skull Island, Pacific Rim II, Godzilla 2, Jurassic World 2, Godzilla 3.

Is the "creature feature" genre the new competition to super hero films?

Well, Godzilla & Pacific Rim weren't exactly run away successes (though profitable in their own right) and Kong is very much a wild card.

Let's see how their respective movies do first.

  5. More updates from The Numbers :D

Avengers 2 screen counts & averages:

Now look at Jurassic World theater counts & averages:

    Wk1: 150 screens, $36.9k!!!

    Wk2:  148 screens, $17.6k

None of the cinemas here anticipated massive Jurassic World business.

    Cinderella cume: $4.5M

Mad Max cume: $2.2M from $500k opening. (The Numbers might be reporting this wrong..actuals should be closer to $1.2M)

Tomorrwland cume: $2.46 from $928k opening.

  6. Various updates over the past few weeks, courtesy of press releases, Deadline, The Numbers, etc.

Internationally, “San Andreas” simultaneously opened to outstanding numbers and ranked #1 in 55 markets including the Philippines where it has grossed P165.24-M ($3.7-M) reported as of June 10.

Pitch Perfect 2 reached the record-breaking P200 million ($4.5 million) milestone yesterday and now stands as the highest-grossing live-action musical/comedy film in the Philippines.

The crowd-pleasing feature about an all-female a capella group opened nationwide May 13 and was the No. 1 film at the box-office for two weeks in a row – a feat previously unheard-of for a live-action musical/comedy up against action movies.

    (As of June 3)

The Numbers has PP2 at $4.64M as of June 14 (33 days in release).

Insidious: Chapter 3 launched as the biggest horror film of all time with P65M ($1.45M) from 224 screens, beating out last year's Annabelle take of P53M ($1.2M).

It also fell just 28% from its opening weekend, grossing $1M to take the market cume to $3M as of June 14 (10 days).

Jurassic World has so far grossed $9.172M as of June 23 (12 days).

  7. Romania. And it is weird because this is the type of movie that usually does well here. The original JP is in Top 10 most attended movies ever. So I really dont get it. The marketing was indeed pretty bad and they didn't concentrate enough on promoting it towards teenagers, since they are the driving force for movies. That, plus the summer. Summer is ALWAYS the worst time to open a movie here. Like, the whole summer will make less money than the month of December 2014. No one wants to go to the movies when it's sunny outside and we had some very hot days lately.

Bodes well for SW though, if they dont screw up the marketing.

More room for Jurassic World sequels to do better then ;)

  8. Wow, JW disappointed here. It got the only the 8th highest OW of the year  It made less than 1/3 of FF7, less than 1/2 of 50 Shades, and it also opened lower than Jupiter Ascending, Taken 3, Mad Max, Age of Ultron and Seventh Son. Its OW is also way lower than Godzilla last year, both in USD and admissions. And I thought this would be one of the frontrunners for the year...

    Where is here exactly?

  9. "Jurassic World" devours P250 million in 5 days

MANILA | The Philippines joined in the global dino-mania as local audiences marched to “Jurassic World” this past weekend, pushing the action-adventure to a five-day opening weekend gross of P250.1-million.

This was announced Monday by a spokesman of United International Pictures which distributed the film through Columbia Pictures.

Starring newly minted action superstar Chris Pratt, the movie takes place 22 years after the horrific events of the original “Jurassic Park” and is set on a fully functional park called Jurassic World.

The film’s opening weekend gross represents the second biggest June opening ever, eclipsing former No. 2 “Man of Steel” at P247 million. Reigning champion is still “Transformers: Age of Extinction” at P250.3 million, but only by a hairline. Overall and all-time, “Jurassic World” now ranks as the sixth biggest opening weekend in the industry.

Globally, “Jurassic World” opened to a staggering $511.8 million, the highest global bow of all time. It marks the first time a film has ever grossed more than $500 million in a single weekend.

The dinosaur thriller is the top-ranking film in the worldwide box office, after opening in first place in North America and across all 66 international territories where it debuted.

In the U.S., “Jurassic World” scored the second-biggest debut in history with $204.8 million, nipping at the heels of “Marvel’s The Avengers’” $207.4 million bow.

Those international results were boosted by a mammoth $100 million opening in China. Other openings of note include the United Kingdom and Ireland with $29.6 million, Mexico with $16.2 million, Korea with $14.4 million, France with $12.5 million, Australia with $12.1 million and Germany with $11 million.

Back in the Philippines, SM Mall of Asia (P13.8-M), SM North Edsa (P12.4-M) and SM Megamall (P11-M) dominated the box-office earnings.

Also garnering huge receipts are SM Cebu (P8.3-M), Trinoma (P7.1-M), SM Aura (P5.3-M), Glorietta 4 (P5.2-M), SM Southmall (P4.5-M), SM Clark (P4.4-M) and Ayala Cebu (P4.1-M).

Completing the top 20 cinemas are Power Plant (P4-M), Alabang Town Center (P3.8-M), Greenbelt III (P3.7-M), SM Iloilo (P3.6-M), Eastwood (P3.4-M), SM Dasmarinas (P3.3-M), SM Fairview (P3.2-M), Market!Market! (P3.1-M), Shang Cineplex (P3-M) and SM San Lazaro (P2.9-M).

  10. This is no BS, when I was 12 and I saw Rocky 4 in Kokomo Indiana with my mom during the winter of 85, and with a packed theater, when Rocky finally cuts Drago, my mother clapped and cheered for Rocky to beat his ass, just like many of the other patrons did.  I joined in because I realized it was ok to do that.

That's how I felt with the TREX coming out.  I felt a swell of emotion, like seeing an old friend for the first time.  It was an unbelievable sight to see the TREX come out for battle.

Couldn't have said it better myself!

That's the kind of scene that gets a great WOM going.

  11. WB, Universal, and Legendary should all collab for a Chris Pratt teamup with Godzilla and dinosaur minions to take on Kaiju.

    If this ever happened.. :stretcher:

I think I would be too. Seems like a better use of all these cool advancements in CGI we've seen over the last 15 years.

EXACTLY. Its like all technological advancements in film are measured by how well they portray monsters, robots, and the like on-screen.

Does Stan Lee look like a bitch?

Don't make us get Asgardian on your ass.

Asgardians would shake in their boots if they ever saw a kaiju :P
